Not really astro related, but will certainly make me feel better whilst I watch the rain drizzle down the window.

Lovely and smooth, despite not being a single malt...
Now, the question is, will I finish the bottle before I get the chance to try out my new scope? 🤔

Moves wonderfully on the Starbase mount, so easy to balance; she’s a thing beauty.

My wife just said “it looks just like the other one”. I guess she’s knows her scopes, the Starbase has a Takahashi sticker on it after all. 😅

Very nice indeed… you are in for a treat, this is a really versatile scope, which cools down very quickly and gives superb views 👍

I will give a firstlight report, i also have a parallelogram on order but i would get away with using the mount in picture up to about 60 degrees so will limit my targets

You should be able to get to almost the zenith, though it’s not perfect. I reckon the tripod will be more stable. I tend to loosen/tighten the locks/friction on the axes when moving. Rock steady binocular stars are nice!

My neck isn't that flexible Peter 🤣

Seriously, It isn't a very good tripod though although it will be fine for my soon to be modded prinz astral 60/700, but more on that later.

No postie today but I must of been quite good this year as Santa left some nice gifts; a Nadira chair, binocular pistol grip, a Neil de Grasse Tyson book, a pic of the moon reflected on water (upside down 🙄) and an illuminated moon globe for my desk:

Next year I'll try even harder to be good! Thanks Santa. 😉

Who's to say it's not astro related? enough of it can make you see stars!

Well not strictly the postman but Santa, lol.

Lovely book on solar dynamics, observing and imaging. Also new monitor for the dome, , defuser for solar flat's and a centering eyepiece adapter, plus more.

Very nice Nigella. It’s an epic - will keep you going until next Christmas.
And even better news: the latest prediction from solar boffins is for a much stronger Cycle 25 than anyone thought.

That's brilliant news about the solar cycle, I thought it must be stronger as the sun's activity has been quite amazing from early into the cycle. All I need now is clear skies, lol.

Some Astro Christmas pressie goodies for me. A pair of gloves with finger tips which allow you to use a phone. A Geoptik bag for my 130mm LZOS which will make it much more useable, and finally a present to myself which is a 2” DGM NPB filter, one I’ve had before but wanted to try again under my improved skies.
