My first proper mount arrived today! About 6 months in to AP, spent the first 6 months with a WO Z73 III and Sky Guider Pro...

My first night out in AP, about 6 months ago...

Earlier this afternoon, about 3 hours before my Condensed matter exam was due in, the new toy arrived!

Guiding system/ASIair plus + Cooled Astro camera next, but this purchase broke the bank already, so will have a few months getting used to Go-To before I need to worry about guiding. I was going to go for the HEQ5 + full guiding system + Power tank now, which came to around the same price as the EQ6-R + Celestron Power Tank, but I decided to double down on the mount at the last minute and get EQ6-R and to be patient for guiding :D

...That counter weight is almost purely cosmetic, I do not think the EQ6-R knows the APO + DSLR is even there :D Sitting at about 3.8KG/20KG payload capacity

Finally I can get my rig mobile (and speed up setting it up at home).

Found this natty 12v battery enclosure - well made and with a cigarette type outlet, 5v usb plug and a pair of terminals a) should you wish to have a 240v inverter say and b) to charge the battery via.

Yes you can build similar with a 12v power panel and a suitable box but by the time you've bought all of that then the price is not much different (this box is £59.99). And all the cut outs and installation of the sockets etc is nice and neat.

As I now have a PowerBox it is just a single cable from the mount to the battery box so all nice and tidy.

A nice brace of Pentaxes (Penti?) arrived from FLO. Ordered during the sale in December, and delivered exactly when they said they would. Thanks very much FLO. Really looking forward to giving these a go on my favourite objects.

I think the subtext on the current stickers is a bit of a swizz though... Eventually???

Love the new sticker. My last one was 'May contain snow' - and it did!

Postie delivered me a copy of Ags superb book on double stars this morning. I've been a fan of doubles for a long time, but can never remember where to find the perishers or their vital statistics. It's even trickier in my Bortle 7 environment, but Discovering Double Stars is aimed at those kinds of skies.  This is going to be a great resource with my grab and go scope, particularly with the spiral spine which will take up less space on my observing table. Thanks Ags, I think this will encourage me outside more often.

Baader Clicklock 2"- T2 for use with my Baader Zeiss BBHS T2 prism: with its 35mm free aperture I can now use my  2" eyepieces, most of which have a field stop of 36mm or less👍

I also plan to try my recently acquired Astro Physics 2" Barlow with this combination..I know @Stu has had some success with a similar setup so am optimistic 😊..
