John - 50k not out!

We can’t let this pass without comment!

Many congratulations, and huge thanks to John for his valued contributions to SGL over the years. John joined SGL in the early days, on 28th November 2005 and today he passed 50,000 posts, a first for SGL by some margin, and all of them good’uns as they say.

John has provided invaluable advice to us all, myself included, passing on his experience to help us get the most out of our hobby and always thinking of new angles or ideas to keep things interesting.

As an example, I had never heard of the Veil Nebula before reading of John’s exploits with his lovely Vixen ED102SS, 31mm Nagler and an OIII filter to show the whole lot in one go. It inspired me to mimic his setup using an Astrotech 106mm f6.5 which set me up for my love of apo refractors; an expensive but very rewarding pastime, and I remain very grateful for the advice and inspiration I’ve received from John over the years. I’m sure many others have similar stories.

So, a big thank you @John, from all of us at SGL. If you were a scope you would be a keeper 😉👍👍

I can only support your comments Stu. John has been a brilliant member giving so much help to both beginners to more experienced observers.

I have had pleasure of meeting John on a few occasions. In fact one of my most enjoyable observing sessions was at a SGL star party where we worked together observing so many DSOs.

So we'll done @Johnon reaching 50000.

I actually made 50K post in my planetary observing thread last night which, as a visual observer, seemed very fitting. Ganymede and Europa performed their little intimate dance to mark the occasion

There is one thing that has contributed more to my enjoyment of astronomy over the past 15 years or so than all my scopes and eyepieces and that is the Stargazers Lounge and lt's membership

I'm very pleased that I found you !!!
