It's actually not quite as good - the platform doesn't extend far enough to fully support the base! It's a 3-in-one so you can lie it down and use it as a platform, and it has some other weird configurations I've not played with yet. 16" is quite a lot to lug around as one person, especially in a very non-flat garden, but I managed to set up a base for it with some spare paving stones and park it in the shed without dropping anything - I think a Telegizmos 365 cover is in this scope's future so it can sit out most of the time.

Been on order for 4 weeks so glad to take delivery of a pair of Helios 15x70’s with a bino bandit and Porro mounting bracket. Just need Hermes to get their act together and deliver the joystick head. 
 

Buckled earlier too at a copy of Interstellarum Deep Sky Atlas as someone highlighted the current low price. Typically, I’ve stuttered and it’s on back order. Did the same with these binoculars 😂

Postie brought me a TMB SW6mm Planetary II eyepiece, via the classifieds and member @Arneb. Hopefully it'll come in handy when the planets are back in view later in the year. I'll settle for the moon, meantime.

Not from the postman, but my dad was sorting through some old boxes and found this book of his, which I remember reading avidly as a kid (when I last had a small telescope). He’s now given it to me, to add to my collection of astronomy books.

The Observers Book of Astronomy by (Sir) Patrick Moore, from 1962 😃

Unfortunately my sister seems to have scribbled on the front and back page, but it’s pencil and adds to the charm 🤣

I did buy a parts one of these a while back but as is the way with these things  it’s  still in a box awaiting some enthusiasm but this one turned up for a decent price and i just picked it up- it’s a beaut! The very nice seller threw in the solar filter so i might just get my first glimpse of the sun this week- though i’m a bit scared! Wondering what ep would be good for a full disk view 🤔

Lately two scopes have shared one diagonal and the beefy Altair 24mm UFF catches the Skywatcher dielectric's compression ring screw head. Tak and WO 1.25" prisms were hovered over for ages but the Altair 1.25" dielectric mirror diagonal won the day. Mainly due to being cheaper than the other main brands and, it's red...

The postman has been busy for me as this just arrived (courtesy of @Size9Hex). Yesterday the postie brought me a mount and now just waiting for the tripod (these things are like gold-dust to find...).

 

Then I need to go and talk to my neighbour about the security light he installed last week that now bathes our once dark garden in reflected light off the next row of houses behind...

My cherished copy was given to me by my late brother who found a very clean revised 1965 edition (with it's paper sleeve showing price 5/- net) in a 2nd hand bookshop on my 60th birthday. Impossible to read without hearing the authors distinctive voice!

That’s lovely to hear... such a nice book and we both have sentimental attachments to them too 😃

What is even more amazing is when you think, that when these were published, only a few people had been into space and man hadn’t yet set foot on the moon 😮
