AstroAdam, nice to hear about it. By the way, I have visited your web-site and figured out that I had read your review about the scope. Thanks for the review and it helped me a lot in my decision "buy or not to buy" ;)

Thanks :icon_biggrin:

I got the handles from eBay for £5 each. Searching for Rolson carry straps should find them, they're a godsend.

Unfortunately they are about a foot too short for my 16" dob

Thats v.nice Stu - whats the aperture ?

It's an 8" Zambutto mirror John, f5.5, although when you look into the 'ball' it looks tiny! The secondary is nice and small at 40mm and the curved vanes spider gets rid of the spikes. There's plenty of contrast and very little light scatter around the planets.

Yes Stu I thought that was a great bit of kit when I viewed it last week at SGLX1. My only regret I was not around on Sunday for the clear skies. Good to see you again.

Thanks Mark. Likewise, all too brief but great to have a chat and catch up

Lovely looking scope, Stu. Is there any strengthening behind the focuser mounting plate?

To my engineering fixated eyes, the focuser plate will be most strained when viewing near zenith, a plate without strengthening looks a bit weak when using heavy EPs. Viewing targets away from zenith shouldn't have any issue.

What a beaut - congrats Stu :)

I like the idea of a motorbike helmet - flicking up the visor for boundary scrubbing ;)

You should have heard the plans the dob mob had for it. Everything from using it as a barbecue, an ashtray to other less savoury forms of receptacle ??

There is a very dinky little boundary layer fan built in which seems to work well.

Did you sort the secondary or leave it?

Left it as it is for now Dan. I'll have a think before doing anything major to sort it. Views were great as it is. Thanks for all your time checking it out and getting it as good as you did. ??
