What did the postman bring?

I ordered an SCT extension yesterday https://www.365astronomy.com/365astronomy-2-sc-extension-for-scts-schmidt-cassegrain-telescopes.html so that I can use my Baader Planetarium 'Crayford' focusser with my 're-modded' ETX105 without having use a Celestron f/6.3 FF/FR as the extension/spacer. Less than 24 hours later, I received it.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank @johninderby for forwarding me the link to it. Without it my 'Crayford' would still be in the For Sale section.

One Solar Quest Mount . Thanks to Ant for the quick sale. Note how the sun was shining before unboxing and how it was gone as soon as the mount was out the box.

Thanks for a quick easy deal :)

My recent purchases include a new (to me 500D), picked up for £90. Missing the mains charger - had to get a charger (£6 amazon).

A rather nice camera lens dew strap, powered by 5v USB (i use a power tank to power). That was about £15ish.

20200721_210609.thumb.jpg.f970f2323312db53d58a23c00c930e24.jpg

and lastly a new EQM-35, which when it arrived I was informed by Jane that one of the other mounts had to go... hence the sale to John above lol

You will love that as ihave had one for a while , it does what it says on the tin.I must get the power adapter to save batteries, when you pack away take out the unit holding the batteries , just in case they leak.

Have you imaged the Sun or an observer?

Hi Roger. Yes I managed a short session yesterday. As you say it does exactly what it claims. There was even a new Sunspot to follow yesterday lol. I don’t think I will be using batteries. I prefer  using the power adapter, but thanks for the advice.

I'm using the same ones, bought a 3-pack I think online for next to nothing. Seem to do the trick nicely all-around.

Good to see you on here again SAS - Did you position your bubble directly in the center of your mount? Below the tube?

Cheers

Ah it was for the big dob, I sat it on the base when levelling, then would rotate the base to make sure it was level when doing alignments. Alt-az mount, so just keeping things tidy so the go-to was performing as well as it could.

My new BST StarGuider ED 5mm eyepiece turned up at lunchtime there. It's marked as Astro Essentials, but it's the same model from the same factory. 😉

Lockdownmas presents lately have been mouthwatering Japanese classic 5mm and 20mm Ultrascopic eyepieces in pristine condition, and a secondhand copy of Bureaucrats - How To Annoy Them, by R.T. Fishall (Patrick Moore).

Just arrived safely all the way from Cyprus (thanks Nicos 👍) and in perfect condition...

Pentax XW 40-R eyepiece 😃

This is intended to replace one or both of my PanaViews in the StellaMira. Can’t wait to give it a go.

Nicos is a top fella as well.
Be very interested to hear how you get on with it.

I've heard good things about it, so very much looking forward to trying it out... I will report back.

Yes, he's extremely helpful and top guy 👍

One of the main issues I have with the HEQ5 Pro is the appalling Vixen clamp that marks dovetail bars. So I thought time for an upgrade and bought a Primalucelab Big Dovetail Clamp that does Vixen and Losmandy along with a corresponding puck for the HEQ5.

Nothing for me...

I was saving the pennies for a 14mm Morpheus eye piece but ended up getting my priorities right and ordered a new "Emma" mattress in the 25% off summer sale.

Hopefully I can get a good nights kip when its cloudy now and "dream" of a Morpheus instead 🙂
