What did the postman bring?

GSO 6" Classical Cassegrain arrived today:

IMG_2195.thumb.jpeg.a551bcc0186ba079c96fd4f9821497b6.jpeg

A quick trial on my AZT6 mount which is on the limit for this scope. A single 2" focus ring was enough but targeting a church steeple approx. a quarter of a mile away I couldn't get ultra sharp focus, I presume this means the scope is out of collimation?

I'm awaiting a new mount which will enable a twin scope setup running this alongside my ED80.

Hello. A couple of pieces of Takahashi gear recieved over the last week for my FS128. I think I am done as I am considering it is now back as stock.

New objective dust cover.  The original "dustbin" design was missing when I bought the scope. This is actually for a  TOA 130 N. Sourced from Takahashi Europe with some help from FLO. It's in Tak green and is an excellent fit too !!

Also a Takahashi finderscope Reticle illuminator. Had a generic one fitted but felt I had to " finish the job" so to speak. Silly / bonkers amount of money for what is it I guess but hey.  Sourced from RVO.

You did well to get a Tak green cover for the 128. I guess they must have had one lying around. Nice job 👍🏻

That lovely flat Tak dewshield is just begging for a nice handle to help John pull it off and put it back again..🙃

Steady guys. @F15Rules @JeremyS  No handles in the offing. Don’t want to go down that wormhole, thank you 😂😂

Any attempt from my point of view will ruin its pristine look.
I already have a handle on the clamshell. It helps nicely when mounting my AZ100.

This came today, courtesy of FLO. ( Thanks guys. ) Finally prompted by a post from @Second Time Around, I think it was him anyway, talked sense.

IMG_20230301_180535_12-Copy.thumb.jpg.b3361f547956922539c5be233831f6d2.jpg

Of course not for the scope or tripod, but for the Starsense Explorer parts.

On offer at the moment, ( the 80mm one. ) so a no brainer for me and my Skytee 2. Should be easy to adapt with a short vixen bar, not sure I would like it on a Synta shoe, ( the parts, not the telescope! ) though might give that a go too. It just seems like it would be over balanced, especially on a small scope.

The scope and tripod look half decent to be honest, will have to give them a go before the grandchild gets an introduction into looking at the moon and planets. Though long term the tripod/mount needs replacing. Should be half decent at F11. Super light too so should be fine for an almost five year old. ( Not too young is it? )

Bought this nice little tray from @CCD Imager a while back and just received a bracket from the printers to mount it on my diy alt-az mount- perfect for beer and peanuts :) (maybe eps and sketching stuff too ;)

and some custom size ep caps for my rag-tag pseudo-astroplan set

Bought a William Optics 2" 90 Deg dialectic diagonal for the Skywatcher StarTravel 102 scope. It's probably overkill for this scope but certainly helps improve the view and provides a better viewing position than the 45 Deg one shipped with the scope.

The starsense unit is fine on a Synta shoe fitting and works great on my dobsonian along with its RACI.

Well, I ve always said that Tak fracs simply get out the way and let you concentrate on the stellar views they produce 👍🏻

I am ridiculously excited tbh, there I was all set with my Mak 127 & ST80 side by side when I started reading that darned "Is it time to get a 4" APO?" thread with everyone waxing lyrical, then the final straw the Actual Astronomy podcast last week was a history of Tak 100mm's  & that was it...

Oh man. I feel bad for starting that thread now 😂 On the other hand, you’re gonna have an amazing telescope as a result 😁

No worries at all, in fact thank you! I was already seriously considering a premium upgrade to the ST80 anyway and had put in offers on a couple of TV76 & 85s, really just made me rethink which 'scope I would get the most out of upgrading and what I would get the most satisfaction from.  All part of the process :)

@SuburbanMakYou're going to need to change your user name... SuburbanTak maybe 😁

Ha! Not sure that's possible - besides the Mak will stay in the stable, its a lovely 'scope and was a 50th birthday present from the family, I'm sure I'll figure out a role for it :)

Is the knob on that clamshell stock Tak? do you need two hands to turn it like submariners turning those valve wheels? 🤣

Yes, it sure is (was) a standard item with the FS128..

It's a brilliant feature..I sometimes need to move the tube up or down to get correct balance when using heavy or light eyepieces etc..

With 2 standard tube rings I'd have to loosen and then tighten two bolts/nuts etc.. with the single clamshell I just loosen it move the tube and re-tighten..job done. And very secure👍
