What did the postman bring?

Forgive the use of a stock image, but I'm working nights.

Couple times I've been out recently where high hazy cloudy have made DSO observing a challenge and doubles rescued me.  For some reason Cor Caroli was the one that convinced mem

I've referred to the pdf a couple times and it felt like theft because it was a really good resource and intuitive too.  Nice little blurb on the doubles and handy star charts too.

Ordered black and white spiral bound.

I'll need to do some math and work out how big a circle I need to I can sort out various eyepiece fov.

Thanks for the great resource @Ags

I went for their native focuser as the FT I might’ve preferred would’ve added at least 3 months to the order. So I'm gratified to discover the focuser has a very nice feel, better than my Steeltracks at first touch.

Ding dong!

You might want to put the Jupiter/Venus conjunction in your diary the 1st March - should be outrageously aesthetic in that scope.

None too shabby! 😉

The circular patterns are interesting, an artefact of how it was ground I’m guessing, clearly so so tiny that they are irrelevant but amazing that they can be picked up. The fringe map looks pretty textbook 👍

Mine is boring compared to you guys , new eyepiece bag thought I would take a chance on this from FLO no reviews yet looks well made , and a 12mm BST so I have some pairs to go with my binoviewerIMG_20230215_183648.thumb.jpg.54446c04a74ee761604657df56546f0d.jpgIMG_20230215_183745.thumb.jpg.4d807e075c248e310df73326ace0f9b8.jpgIMG_20230215_183714.thumb.jpg.e4b855352dc30e39f1e4081be0014baa.jpg

In my 130mm newt, the 12mm BST was always my favourite

I agree.  It's a fantastic focal length for the scope. My 8mm is languishing unloved since Christmas as the 12mm frames lots of objects nicely and gets good contrast on DSO.

I found out later that the 12mm gave around a 2mm exit pupil in that scope which is generally deemed to be the best for DSOs. The Lagoon nebula with a UHC  filter and that eyepiece is still one of my best astronomy memories.

Prior to today, I have always used front-mounted glass or film based white light solar filters on my scopes, and have a half-dozen of them around here for the various models they fit, each one having a slightly different level of quality, insofar as the detail revealed in the eyepiece.

Late this afternoon, my first Herschel wedge-type filter was delivered, and I was able to use it for a few minutes before the Sun dropped below my horizon.

The difference in image quality between the two types was like night-and-day; the wedge much sharper. Glad I finally got one of these.

The second of the two deliveries from US just arrived. The Losmandy mounting rail/plate, and a very nicely-engineered eyepiece-counterweight set-up. Plus a device for carrying awkward objects whose technical name temporarily escapes me 😁:

A bundle of bits from @FLO for optimising the set up I have and preparing for a Dob fettling session ahead of spring galaxy season.

- SL 8x50 RACI finder to be dedicated to the 10” GSO Dob.  I’ve been switching finders across from the Mak and while my Telrad takes seconds to re-align, the 8x50 RACI seems to require adjustment right to its extreme every time so I have bitten the bullet on a second finder.

- GSO coma corrector, let’s see what difference this makes visually.

- Bob’s Knobs

- Telrad risers 2” for the Mak and 4” for the Dob.

Looking very bling there sir 👍.

Glad you’ve finally got to see the benefits of a wedge, the view can be absolutely jaw dropping when the skies are steady. Enjoy 👍

The somewhat uncomfortably named Leg Spreader for me today. To be fitted to my Uni-28. Should make life a lot easier, not chasing those wayward legs all over the place 🤪

Easy does it, Stu. No sudden movements or you might do yourself a mischief 😊

My first "proper" tripod arrived today, Berlebach Uni 18 with optional leg spreader and accessory tray along with the Chalon observers chair.

A quick trial in the garden viewing the local church steeple and, wow, what a difference. Nothing wobbles!

Somewhat overkill for my little ED80 on AZT6, but that is in the process of being remedied:

Glad Berlebach is there to supply quality wood tripods, available with different top-plates for our needs.

My Report tripod landed at LAX yesterday (Thursday) afternoon, tracking does not yet show it out for delivery, as yet.
