Royal Mail? 😊

Last week a Christmas card was delivered to me - posted on Dec 15.

I found the best way around the "post early for Christmas" thing was to post cards on the 23rd with a first class stamp. Mine all seem to arrive on the 24th that way. Post in the few days before that and they don't arrive until January! Wierd, huh?

Final part of my widefield setup arrived - William Optics 32mm slide guide scope.  Sits nicely on the Red Cat and keeps the weight down.  Time to start attaching cables now and let this thing outside, the cat is getting restless :)

Found this in the hiking shop. I need a portable heat source to pop in an insulated bag to protect the Starbook 10 display when it gets below zero. Initial impressions are good. Runs at 45C on low power setting for 8 hrs!

Decided to invest in some comfort- got a new astro-stool. It’s got red legs :) Very comfortable and quick and easy to adjust height (gas strut), though would have been even better if it went a bit lower

Very nice! What make is it? I am thinking this would be a good match for my Avalon mount!😎

Haha yes- would be a nice match :) I was thinking the reverse- I should get a t-pod to match ;)  It’s a drummers stool or as they like to call them- “throne” 🤣 made by Pearl

I have just sourced this full electric focuser for my 8SE which the postie dropped off this morning. Everything including the brackets, belt, motor, all screws and the electronic speed controller for £102 posted. It works flawlessly and I am delighted with it. It can be powered by a 9v battery or a 12v external supply. The speeds range from incrementally slow to full speed which is more than needed. You can also disengage the drive belt for manual focusing if you should so desire. No disassembly required apart from the three screws on the focuser plate. Simply remove them fit the bracket and secure with the three longer screws provided. Definitely a bargain in my eyes.

Turned up surprisingly quick.  SV220.  SVBony's 7nm dual band filter.  Not heard a massive amount about it so a complete unknown in terms of performance.  We shall see how it performs.  Worth a punt for £140.  Debating ordering a 49mm to 48mm ring so I can front mount it to a lens.

Ridiculously shiny.

EDIT:  Just had a look in the box and there was a chart of the band pass of the filter.  Not sure if it is useful to anyone (or accurate) but hey ho.

Yet another lunar atlas. 😁

Must admit I’ve never heard of this atlas and looking at some of the sample pages online there seems to be more detail than my 21st century atlas of the moon, and with maps for all types of scope makes it very appealing.

Thanks Iain👍.

Of course the arrival of these little beauties brought with them thick cloud, so it could be next week at least til first light. But I'm sure it will be worth waiting for..

And when you do get them out to test them you enter the observer's paradox where you look through them for 5 minutes and 4 hours passes.

TBH, right now I'd settle for literally a 5 minute look through them at night!🤦🤭

It seems like Royal Mail runs on Astro Physics timelines.

Tell me about it. I ordered a Geoptik adapter plate so my EQ5 mount could go an EQ6 tripod I was given by a friend.

I ordered from RVO but chose to have it sent to a friend in the UK instead of directly here to France as the shipping was £40!

My friend then popped it in the post to me for £8.40 and over a month later it has not arrived.

This is the story of What the postman didn’t bring. The worst bit is the adapter was supposed to free up the 1.75” tripod that came with the EQ5 mount.

This tripod was then going to have my AZ5 visual kit on it instead of the wobbly tripod supplied.

I am always just one step away and £100 out of pocket. None of this is the fault of RVO I should add.
