What did the postman bring?

Tell me about it. I ordered a Geoptik adapter plate so my EQ5 mount could go an EQ6 tripod I was given by a friend.

I ordered from RVO but chose to have it sent to a friend in the UK instead of directly here to France as the shipping was £40!

My friend then popped it in the post to me for £8.40 and over a month later it has not arrived.

This is the story of What the postman didn’t bring. The worst bit is the adapter was supposed to free up the 1.75” tripod that came with the EQ5 mount.

This tripod was then going to have my AZ5 visual kit on it instead of the wobbly tripod supplied.

I am always just one step away and £100 out of pocket. None of this is the fault of RVO I should add.

Marv

I’ve fitted my AZ4 mount head (same M10 fitting as EQ5) to my EQ6 tripod using one of these…

https://boltworld.co.uk/collections/thread-rod-reducer-zinc-plated/products/m12-to-m10-thread-rod-reducer-free-cutting-steel-zinc-plated-metric-thread/

You also need a handful of washers to go over the M12 rod beneath the tripod top to pack out the extra space as it doesn’t screw as far into the mount (see pic). I only had spring washers big enough to go on there so I stacked them like that on the rod, bit messy looking but works nicely. Could also use a couple of large nuts instead which would look tidier.

My latest astro purchase courtesy of @FLO ordered Thursday night and delivered by the lovely dpd driver today.

This will make my visual sessions much more satisfying if that was even possible. Seen rave reviews for the st80 and you hardly see any on the used market which tells you something. Just tested it out whilst aligning my 9x50 raci and Rigel qf. The views were so sharp and nice contrast in the daylight. I can't wait to get this one out for a visual session now. Here she is on my AZ5. 😍

Beautiful Dave! And well done on finding the BGOs! Both pairs will be superb in the Maxbright.

Thanks Mark🙂

I count myself very fortunate..I found one BGO for sale and grabbed it..having tried it in the maxbright by itself just to test it, I was amazed (and reminded, as I once had a full set of these) at just how razor sharp these eyepieces are.

So I advertised for another, and eventually managed to get one..both are immaculate.

I also found a pair of the Tak 12.5mm Abbe's being sold together, so I sacrificed my Morpheus 17.5mm to help fund them.

Of course it's been cloudy since the BGO and Tak pairs arrived, but I am confident that both will work wonderfully with the MBII's..the relatively narrow views don't bother me because the field stops on both BGO and Taks are SO sharp, and the views sharp from edge to edge; I bought these to use at highish magnification on Lunar, Planets and Double stars, and for this purpose they should be perfect👍.

Wait...a 50mm finder on an 80mm scope?

I get it, the finder will be passed on to larger scopes down the line.

Smart.

I've always had the 9x50raci and been on all my scopes in the past. It's such a great finder to have on any scope I find.

So. , trip to Widescreen Centre , and a delivery from Altair Astro ( although a few niggles to sort out ) has got me a new scope and mount .
A 6” Classical Cassegrain and a skytee 2 mount ! Of course the skies are cloudy … and I think the scope has arrived slightly out of collimation , plus I am waiting to hear back from Altair regarding a rather annoying dust spot on the primary and some rather rough areas around the edge of the mirror . But all things being equal it will hopefully have 1st light tomorrow evening . 🙏

EDIT **

Altair Astro , take a bow ... after emailing yesterday , Ian from Altair emailed back , great service ... and on a sunday too . In the end and from a discussion this morning Altair are taking the scope back and replacing it with another ... although if i can add , watch this space for what turns up .

In an era when companies very often do not care about customer satisfaction and service , i have to say Altair Astro have addressed a problem and rectified it , no arguments , no issues , just good old helpfulness and positive action .

2nd EDIT**

So , New scope arrived , 6" CC , will be returned today .

More, Neil???😉

The chap selling was down the road from my brother, so couldn't resist. I won't be keeping most of them, but will be trying them all out, first.

I might be interested in the Baader zoom, plus potentially one or two of the others...😉

A couple of packages for me. A Vixen case to give me one for each of my three 0.965” orthos, plus a second 6mm BCO to trying in my Binoviewer. Thanks Dave 👍

Also, a rather lovely 17mm Type 4 Nagler off ‘The Bay’, to match my 22mm, and 31mm Type 5. Had these ages ago and have wanted them back for a while. I’ve opted away from 100 degrees these days and these are a great choice at 82 degrees.

Possibly the most ridiculous packaging I’ve ever seen. In a good way. Quadruple-boxed and cubic feet of styrene buffering. To say I’m excited would be … accurate.

It’s a bit of a monster. Only problem is, this was package 2 of 2. No 1, still in transit, contains the Losmandy plate and something else which various people on here will also get excited about.
