Kelling Autumn Equinox - 2016

Recommended Posts

Although not organised by SGL, it's usual for us to have a thread for SGLers attending - so you can easily find each other and say 'hi'!

So, I'll be on Red 354 Mon-Thur and then I think Blue 267 Fri and Sat (yes, that *will* be a pain!!)

I'm at Kelling Heath from Wednesday to Sunday. I can't remember the exact pitch number, but it's somewhere between 166 and 169 on the new area behind the loos on the Yellow field.  I'll be in an old Eldiss Autoquest 200 motorhome with a green inflatable awning.

Please feel free to pop in for a cup of tea.

All being well, we will be there from Sunday to Sunday on yellow 164 this year.

Looking forward to seeing old friends, and making new ones too. :)

(Oh and we should have the 16" Lightbridge with us as well as LS60 solar scope, and maybe a small imaging rig and some big bins).

I am hoping to be there from the Thursday. I am with the North Essex Astro Society in the Blue field down the bottom corner, next to the edge of the Red field. You will have to look hard to find my scope though, a TS60ED on a StarAdventurer. If it fits in the car though, I shall give my Mewlon 180 an outing.

Hi Ray

I'll definitely try to get down to see you as I'm hoping to get an EQ8 in the next few months.

I am on pitch  T351 .  I normally booked from Thursday to Monday, but if the the weather looks to be good either side I normally come earlier or stay later if I can.

Can't stay later this time though.

I'm on pitch T380 on the red field from Thurs to Monday. I haven't done any imaging since the Mercury Transit due to holidays and a minor op. I'm now ready to get started again. I look forward to meeting old friends and making new.

As I understand you need to phone for bookings as I have never been to Kelling before, I`m going to SGL12 at the end of October but would quite like to book for spring 2017 meet could someone tell me the cost for 3/ nights please or can I find this out from Kelling website thanks.

£14 per night so £42 for the three nights. Ring as soon as you can as the site fills quickly. You will likely be lucky for the spring camp but the autumn one is almost impossible as it is fully booked a year in advance.

If you haven't phoned Kelling reception it would be worth it. Their websiite always shows fully booked for the star party weekends to prevent non astronomers from booking the pitches.

A colleague at Bedford AS is now no longer able to attend Kelling.
Pitch is T374 on the Red Field, 26th to 30th Sept. Cost is £58 for the pitch.
If interested, please let me know and I will put you in touch with him

      Thanks

With my eye on an Equinox 120 ED, I am wondering if it's focuser can take an Astro Physics diagonal + ES 40mm Maxview total close to 2kg if not more - sort of challenge for any focuser bar imaging kit.
The Featherlite is almost half the price of scope again!

If any of you are interested in a star party in East Suffolk, we have been hosting a Star Party every March and October at Hinton, near Saxmundham, Suffolk at a newly developed Caravan and campsite, Haw Wood Farm, for the last 5 years. It is £12 per pitch per night with electricity hook up (adapter needed) call Dan or Georgina (see link below). Some of you here may know about it; on good nights we have had a SQM reading of 21.75 - it can get dark enough to see the Zodiacal Light! Many local society members meet up: Norwich, Castle Point, North Essex, OASI (Orwell), DASH (local) and Breckland among others and it is generally friendly and welcoming (if we can see you in the dark!). Saturday 14th we run an event: a skytour or talks in the cafe, dependent on weather. Unfortunately, timing clashes with the SGL star party but we're a long way from it.
      See link for details: http://www.hawwoodfarm.co.uk/things-to-do/events-hawwood/

      Hi All,
After imaging Venus last evening, when it became visible it was already low in the west less than 30 minutes from it setting behind the mountains.
Being so low in the west and the amount of turbulence/heat shimmer I was fighting when imaging, I think that I might not image Venus this season again, so I'm sharing my collection of Venus phases I captured between 1st December 2016 and 20th February 2017.
      Thanks for looking,
      Mariusz
