Getting there.

FC-100DC on Scopetech Zero and Vixen APP-TL130. Not convinced about tripod, takes a while to settle down, but nothing to compare against for its weight. Happy to carry this in one go, unlike the Skytee and SW tripod.

That scope/mount/tripod combination are all anyone could want in a setup of this size, the best of everything on display here. If I could go back and visit Galileo I would bring him this setup, imagine that!

Very nice set up. Have to agree about the APP-TL130, it's a great tripod from a portable, grab n go point of view but I've found that a 3" refractor is about the limit if you want rock steady views. Even the ultra lightweight DC is going to push it I would think. I'm keeping my APP-TL130 for the smaller scope but for the 4" the SXG-HAL130 is a different beast. Larger but not much heavier, it can handle a load more. 44kg payload as opposed to the much lighter duty APP-TL130. Both lovely tripods mind.👍

Thank you. I think I need to sell my erroneous purchases before further larger purchases, my wife keeps commenting about the large boxes that keep appearing. :D

That’s a fine looking scope 😀

I found the ScopeTech Zero and Berlebach Report was a little too “wobbly” with the FC-100DC, but absolutely fine with the FC-76DCU 👍

Nothing exotic for me tonight - the good old ED120 + Skytee II workhorse. It did a fine job, performing very close to the theoretical limits of the aperture. Can't ask for more :thumbright:

Carrying on the APO action, here is my LZOS getting frosted up:

By the way first time out with BV's, no GPC required at all to gain focus with UFF 10 mm and 24 mm UFF. All very good!

My Skylight on Vixen Polaris in AZ mode. Had a quick look at the moon last night before everything dewed over. Moon pic is cropped but unprocessed any further.

Quick question: in many moon pics, there always seems to be more CA than the observer reports seeing in the eyepiece. Is this from the camera?

Not dark yet, but it will be soon

Looking good 👍

Same here… all setup, just gone a little foggy right now, but expect that will clear 🤞

The “big guns” tonight… Mewlon 180C and FC-100DZ… their first proper outing together. It’s also the first test of AZ100 mounted on the iOptron Tri Pier (Uni 28 is now being used for the Vixen GP)… this combination is absolutely rock steady!

Just put the binoviewer on the Mewlon, and the moon looks awesome, even with light fog 😃

At 5pm it was this ..IMG_20220114_155318988_HDR.thumb.jpg.122d1a3666a57a4a65ce7eaa53118764.jpg

..at 8pm it's this..IMG_20220114_200011831.thumb.jpg.3b745a0ee1d23869fb04b3177bb548f8.jpgIMG_20220114_200030494.thumb.jpg.543019a82c2ec6835f93cf77900c6135.jpg

..the tragedy is, that when I came out to set up at 7.30pm, although it was misty, the moon was SO still, fabulous seeing, although no other stars visible. Sadly it's now turning into a real "pea- souper"🥴..so I'm packing up as it's getting thicker by the minute!

I hope some of you are getting only the lightest mist..if so, you should get some superb seeing conditions!
