Caught 12P again last night. Still challenging, 20 degrees alt and not full astronomical darkness, using the 533 OSC this time. Processing is a headache I struggled with combining a comet stack and star stack, so this is just a star stack 15 minutes, so some drift with the comet

Are you using some kind of polarised light source?

Thanks Wolfie. I've just downloaded the NX software trial as per @ollypenrice recommendation as it is a direct plugin to Affinity. A first test on a recent M51 has me impressed. I'll try this on the Oiii stack. Now to figure out where you use this in the Siril/Affinity workflow... This is a zoomed in crop on M51 with the 533MC/90mm F6. It was pretty noisy beforehand, NX seems to have preserved the detail Before and after (and some colour adjustments)

900SL started following M51, the Whirling Dervish, or why I need a longer FL

My first target was the Sunflower, but it hid behind a tree to the SE. So the back up was M51. 90mm F6 540mm, 1.0 x FF, TS Flat2. 150 x 90s OSC, 533MC Pro No noise reduction, just Siril processing. I need a longer scope for this Galaxy lark. Here's a crop Edit redone as starless:

Speaking as a Structural engineer, one potential issue with curved spider vanes is the inability to pretension them (unlike blade or wire type straight vanes, which behave like bicycle spokes in some ways) This may effect stiffness and require thicker plate to reduce deflection etc -

Thanks Vlaiv, that was very helpful in understanding the causes. -

Can you video it? -
Thanks Ollie. I had a play around with the noise reduction in Siril, it does improve the background although not on the level of your software. It's also a bit hit and miss, you need to get an initial stretch just so otherwise you get a lot of unnatural artifacts. It's all good practice and a learning experience:)

Thanks O. around 25 x 360s in S, H and O, so around 2 to 2.5 hrs each channel. Needs more Oiii. No OSC stars yet, I'm finding my way in the dark still but I can now register the separate stacks, do starnet 2 separation in Siril, match the stacks, stretch and do RGB or Pixel math recombination. Getting the stars to match the starless on re-composition is tricky!

Yes, amazing! I got a few hours on Jellyfish and a couple hours on monkeyhead last night. I need longer scope for galaxies though.

Thanks Elp. I tried the green noise removal in Siril but it drains all the colour, areas appear almost monochrome. I'll try playing around with some different combinations in Siril Pxlmath. The Ha mapped to green in SHO is the cause I think. Ill try blending some into the other channels. I'll also try your suggestion of stretching each band separately. I don't have any denoise software so I'll try to get more Oiii (if we have any more clear nights...)
