  1. After years of only looking up I got back in this sickness too. I bought an 8" reflector and built my dob mount. Only thing I wish is I had gone 10" or even 12" from the start!
  2. Started off really cloudy, but both visible thru the clouds. Judt before I left for work, it cleared up and looked wonderful.
  3. Doing the mosquito dance again. Auto shut down at 7 secs again. Scrubbed. Should have give it to Musk!!
  4. I use a manual DOB and it is frustrating how quickly what you are viewing moves through the FOV. But even with that, isnt what you view wonderful?!!
  5. Welcome to an incredible group. The amount of knowledge here is almost as vast as the universe.
  6. I can hardly image what it would look like. I've been watching a lot of shows on wilderness lately and shamefully admit when they show the night sky, I cant see anything but millions of stars! I have picked out Orion!
  7. Quite a nice feather in your hat! Congratulations!
  8. Up at 11:50 pm, both me and SWMBO at the driveway only to see it's been scrubbed again. I managed to close my eyes a little, then back up at 2:00 am for work. Looks like the same game tonight/tomorrow morning.
  9. Curses, foiled again! Announced that it's been delayed and rescheduled to early Sunday morning. I have to get up at 2am to be at work by 4am. Well, just might be an earlier morning wake up.
  10. Tomorrow at 12.14 the ULA heavy is scheduled to launch. For a few days we've had great weather, but today there are showers coming in from the gulf, heading across the state. Maybe I'll get lucky. That rocket at night should be incredible.
  11. Nice. Just in time with that tiny red speck starting to look like a planet!
  12. I tried using my phone, hand held and could never get it right. That is good for a phone.👍
  13. I spent about $250 for my 8" OTA reflector, less the Amazon discount. No finder scope, no mount, no eyepieces. I built my own base, then bought eyepieces and a finder scope. Now, I have more money in eyepieces than the scope. But what I've seen with that scope makes me smile! Your choices are almost limitless.
  14. Excellent image. I hope everyone realizes how spoiled we are going to be come late October when we have to watch Mars shrinking again!😏
  15. I'm looking forward to some images of these skies!! I dont think I could get to Bortle 1 in Florida!
  16. My past two periods of days off have been, if not cloudy, then totally cloud covered due to the usual thunderstorms and tropical storm Sally. This morning finally cleared up enough for me to get out. There was still enough high haze that the brilliant quarter phase of Venus visually had the hint of fog around it in the sky, but through the scope it was not too bad. Mars showed some detail, but it could have been much better. Still it was nice seeing it growing so large after having been just a bright red dot. The thing that tells me the season is really changing is Orion climbing back into the early morning sky. Before going back in I took a quick peek at Orion's nebula. That area of the sky must have been a bit better because the Trapezium was very clear, standing out against the background of the Nebula. Just another couple months of our wonderful humidity making the air as thick as soup!😁
  17. Once again, from just a simple soul, there's so much we dont know, or understand! But, we are learning, if we just have enough time!
