  1. Excellent! Oh the number of worlds in that image is just beyond imagination!
  2. Early tomorrow morning will be the peak of this shower. I'll probably set up a camera again tonight if the weather permits. I can only hope to make it to '32 and hope for another storm! Good luck viewing!
  3. My grandchildren are afraid of the dark. They're 10 and 7. Have to have a very bright night light and even sleep in our room when they stay overnight. I do hope they grow out of it too. Out where I live, being outside on a dark night, with everything that's wild, can be a moving moment. Owls talking to each other, coyotes and foxes in the distance barking and howling is an incredible sound. Been many years ago, but I can remember camping and hearing a Fla panther!
  4. If I remember correctly, (without googling to be sure), we had at least 1 more moon shot already built, but scrapped it. We have a history of wasting billions of dollars on projects we start, then decide we dont need. If I could just get a job overseeing these things, think of the kit I could have if I just siphoned off .001% of a billion dollars into my offshore account!😎
  5. The one that hooked me, even though it took years to get going again was Saturn through a cheap reflector back in the late 60's. The GAE in '17 brings me to tears being I was able to share it with my youngest daughter and her son, my youngest grandson. A first total eclipse for us all. Thanks to you here on the SGL, I can add the Mercury transit and Luna occulting Mars. Two not really actual astronomy, but science/space was witnessing Apollo 11 launch at the Cape. The other is a memory that will forever be with me! I was quite casually watching the Space Shuttle Challenger lifting off in the distance through my telephoto lens, just to use up the last of the film on the roll. Just as I focused it manually, it exploded. I think I took a dozen images, the last showing contrails from the debris falling.
  6. I've marked my calendar and just hope for good skies. That time of year in Fla is pretty good, but it is falling around the same time as a meteor shower so that will bring on the clouds!😂
  7. I have the same feeling to a point. We have a local facebook group for the area I live in who opposes new construction. They want to restrict the down sizing of plots of land to keep the country, country. If it's yours do what you feel right, or need to do to care for your family. But big bright lights shining onto my property doesn't fit that thinking. There is nothing in the dark that's not there in the light, except the light.
  8. Thanks for this head up. Just the thought of Jupiter occulting Saturn leaves me imagining one incredible sight!
  9. This was an interesting article till it went political.
  10. Dont know about across the pond, but we're entering the Christmas season. Who can put the most lights on their house and in their yard. I bet for a month or two we look like a double star system from a far. 😎
  11. What was the viewing like before you removed it to clean it?
  12. Your focused might be a bit longer than mine. I also have an adapter that let's the camera fit like a normal eyepiece, but then I have to use a Barlow to move it out more. When I use that, the entire moon wont fit in the image.
  13. I use a Canon SL1 attached like you do with your camera. I have an 8" orion telescope. You have to play with the ISO a lot to get so you can see liveview. Sometimes I get the best images of the moon and planets when I can barely see them in the live view mode. Just have patience and experiment with the ISO and shutter speed. You'll get it.👍
  14. I worry we will see many things concerning NASA affected. Only time will show what and how bad.
  15. With these large refractors, do the lenses get ground where they are convex on both sides? I cant imagine the difficulty of grinding a lenses on both sides.
  16. Melting lead on SWMBO's stove a crime!?? You wouldn't believe the things I've done in the house with me hunting, just to get out of the mosquitos after sunset. Sink, bathtub, all fell victims of my hunting success!
  17. Great post and amazing images. I'm in awe thinking how you man handle those huge telescopes.
  18. Beautiful view. I can just make M31 out on a good night and where I live in Florida is considered country living.
