  1. Amazing images! And yes, the difference in perspective is something many dont realize. I love to fly, but have mostly done it in smaller planes. Nothing larger than may 25 seaters and never at night. Maybe someone should drop a hint to Mr. Branson to change a couple of his airliners to have a glass moon roof! 😁
  2. Beautiful! And yes, every time I see her, I speak to her. My joke is Luna is the only other thing my wife of 40 years will let me look at with loving eyes!
  3. For me, its bed at 6:45. Work again tomorrow! Up at 2am to be there by 4am.
  4. Welcome neighbor. I'm in Florida, but here in this incredible group, we all share a similar fondness for the night sky above us! Enjoy!
  5. Cycle 25, that is the beginning of the next cycle? Each cycle goes through an active and calm period, or are they either active or calm? I got out for just a few minutes and couldnt see anything with my filtered DOB, where before I could see the small spot. Viewing wasn't the best with some high thin clouds moving around and I forgot a towel to cover my head as I looked into the eyepiece.
  6. I would be a bit surprised if this wasnt one of the most watched splashdown ever. Where has time gone? The last time we landed a capsule in the water was 1975! And another thing I would have never imagined, was watching it all live on a phone! Sounds like the next manned launch is planned for September.
  7. If they can have a class action suit over the price of telescopes, why not on ruining the view?
  8. I was just reading up on their return. Going to be the first Gulf of Mexico landing if I'm thinking right. Everything before has been the Atlantic or Pacific Oceans. I am a little, well surprised, though. They spent most of the night sleeping. Any return trip home over 6 hours must be extended to allow them to rest up a bit. Come on guys! Your astronauts! The things kids dream of! Heros! I've done return trips before where I'd drive 20 hours straight, me behind the wheel, sometimes doing 90 or 100 on the interstate when traffic and weather permitted! 😁 And aren't they just sitting there enjoying the ride?
  9. If I can avoid the couch when I get home at 2pm, I'll try to give them a look.
  10. Very interesting video. Those solar set ups really seem like they would be fun.
  11. Yes, thanks for the effort and the images. Sometimes when I'm observing, I look in the area I know it's supposed to be and think how I would love to see the non-planet! 🤔
  12. After seeing your post, went out and put the filters on my DOB. With a 2x Barlow and a 23mm I could see the spot good.
  13. I know admittedly that my 8" Orion OTA wasn't observatory class, but still at just $250, I thought it was very, inexpensive. I wont use the term cheap. How much could I win? Cant seem to hit the lotto, maybe this is my chance!😁
  14. This was on FaceBook. What will lawyers come up with next?
  15. Well done John. As fast as it moves across the sky, they should figure out how to have smoke coming out behind it like Buck Roger's or the Thunder Birds!
  16. It truly is unimaginable what is out there!
  17. Nice image! Below the cluster, between the two large stars is a fuzzy smudge. Is that another galaxy in the distance?
  18. Excited to see it get going. I am I correct thinking it also has a small airborne drone too? That will be very interesting.
  19. As much as I like the monster telescope from Ireland, I have my doubts many, if not any, of the homeowners associations over here would approve of that in your back yard!😁 But then they probably never look up.😞
  20. Welcome, sounds like you're already starting off really good. The moon can be very interesting if you get to view it as the phases change.
  21. It's incredible to see the moons as more than a brilliant speck! I agree with the others, well done.
  22. I joke I was born with the gift of gab! Socializing, it's really a pleasant diversion.
  23. I have a 4mm with my 8"dob. Occasionally I get a chance to use it on Jupiter, Saturn and the Moon with a 2x barlow. Only trouble is with it being manual, boy do they move through the field of view quick.
  24. You have brought a smile to this old face! And yes, as long as you're offering a members discount, I'll preorder mine now!
  25. I had an uncle in the 60's who had one. He liked taking it out when us kids was around. I'm not sure if it was the glass eye that always got me, or the empty eye socket? He was a peculiar character!
