  1. My 19 year old grandson is about to move out to go back up near his girlfriend's mother and his parents too! Thinking the chances were getting few, I got them and SWMBO to the observatory. I let them see Jupiter and the 4 Galilean moons. The equatorial bands would come in and out of view as it moved through the eyepiece. Saturn was about the same, two of its moons visible. Mars showed little detail being still low in the sky, but was clearly a planet. Before they went back in I turned to Andromeda, letting them see the bright core. Also pointed out Cassiopeia and the great square of pegasus. As much as I like the idea of being back in control of my house and life, it felt so good getting them to look at the heavens above us. Cant wait to do the same for my 10 Y/O grand daughter and 7 Y/O grandson.
  2. I'd probably have to get one of my daughters to do it for me! But I did put my pants on and tie my shoes this morning. But, SWMBO did lay them out for me!😞
  3. Incredible. I know you said they're both tiny, but when it comes to moons, aren't they really tiny?
  4. Welcome! This is an incredible way to pass the hours.
  5. Very nice image! Every time I see it imaged I try to picture what it would have been like to look up at it 300 years ago when the only light pollution came from candles and campfires.
  6. Wonderful capture! Some type of stork or crane I'm guessing!
  7. Excellent full moon! You cant hear it, but right now I'm howling!
  8. I would have to say the handful I can easily identify all are incredible. Orion, the hunter so majestic! The greatest hunter of all time. Following behind him, the only thing that can harm him. Scorpios, my birth month.
  9. Always remember what Pink Floyd said,,, "Us,,,,,, and them,,,,, !
  10. Incredible what a talented person can do even in a terrible sky!
  11. An incredible sketch! I tip my hat to you and your talent Sir!
  12. Personally I would love one of these for work! It would fit the way I feel somedays perfectly.
  13. I was up after sunset for a change, so I went out to check the visibility. We have high thin cloud cover making it not worthwhile to try with the scope. It was nice to be able to see Jupiter, Saturn, Luna and down a bit more to the East, Mars still reigning supreme in the evening sky through the clouds. Hopefully, tomorrow evening will be clear!
  14. Lovely! I do enjoy looking at images of the things I'm unable to view or image as of now!
  15. Beautiful! I do like the second image through the branches! The small amount that is blurred with motion gives it a real life look!
  16. When you get an adapter to put the camera onto your telescope you might need a barlow to get enough focus, but you will be surprised at the images you can get of Jupiter and Saturn. Might not be as good as those who shoot video then stack the best frames, but everyone takes the first steps.
  17. The moon is an amazing thing to view. With the terminator moving across its surface you will be surprised the different details you pick out that had gone unnoticed.
  18. Amazing image. Well done with you effort!
  19. Welcome from across the pond. I have an 8" reflector, an Orion, and have had many nice nights out viewing. I think you and SWMBO (shewhomustbeobeyed) are in for some great fun.
  20. I guess they felt sorry for a poor old soul like me!😁 I joke with everyone at work, not to get too carried away, because life changes quickly. One day you might be the pigeon but just as fast you go to being the statue!
  21. Left for work, turned to the East and there just above the horizon was an incredible Moon! With it so low, it was big and very reddish, really in its glory. One of those sights which makes you stare at it and go wow! Twenty minutes later, I turn to the South onto the street in town that takes me to the store and even with all the street lights I see an amazing meteor streak through the sky. It was so fast it lasted just a second. It had a very brilliant trail, and fragmented at the end. It still covered 10 or 15 degrees it was so fast. One of those you just die to capture in an image! Smiling to myself, I couldnt help but think I was being rewarded for getting up to go to work.
  22. Excellent! When I got back into this insanity I still had an old "CHEAP" general store retractor, probably 3" that I had bought my daughters 25 years earlier. It has the .975" eyepieces. Cleaned it up and took it out, surprised at the views of the moon! Later, got my youngest grandkids out too. When I got my 8" reflector, they got real looks at Jupiter and Saturn. There is few things that bring the joy you get from sharing the heaven above us.
  23. That looks quite interesting. I'm assuming its DIY or was this something factory made? What type of motor does it have and what is the power source?
  24. I tried for weeks to get the combination of me up, him up and the weather to cooperate. Finally when I woke up at 2:30 there was light high clouds obscuring the Western sky. At 3:30 the aroma of bacon being cooked told me he and his girl friend were up. As soon as they had breakfast ready, I got both of them out to get their first real look at Mars. It wasnt the best viewing, being Mars was only 30° above the horizon, but you could make out faint surface details. Both were actually very surprised, looking at it in the eyepiece, then stepping back to gaze at it naked eye! Before the mosquitos chased them back in. I turned the telescope to the Orion's Nebula. Maybe they'll think a bit the next time they look up.
