  1. Me in Cape Girardeau Missouri this past Monday for the eclipse. I was very surprised. I was making friends rather quickly!
  2. Excellent images! I wish I had took a moment to change my exposure to catch the prominence, but when it went total, I just watched the spectacle with the rest of the gathered crowd. The wife and I went to Cape Girardeau.
  3. SWMBO is also fond of brisket. We usually wait to go to a restaurant being if you purchase it to do yourself it can easily cost $50 to $100 depending on weight. Then how quickly can 2 people eat a 20# brisket? The images of the fields covered with color are beautiful!
  4. This one was the best of 2017, 2023 and 2024. The way the surroundings changed when totality neared. Then the incredible deep blue sky! Having SWMBO there with me and seeing the huge naked eye prominence was something we will never forget.
  5. I took images, but I'm more of a visual amateur. This one was the third in 7 years. Maybe the last. 2150 miles round trip. My, system isn't back to normal yet.
  6. When it went total there were several prominence visible. One so big it was naked eye!!
  7. Looks like the Astro God's have smiled on me again!
  8. Very nice writeup! I hope to have the opportunity to view through a real star cannon. So far my 8" has given me a lot of joy!
  9. I hope you have a great view! I'm 3 hours away from the path of totality in Missouri and we've had rain last night. My thoughts have been if a weather system did move through, I would have almost 8 hours for it to clear behind it. Let's see just how strong I am "with the force"!
  10. Hope you have good weather! Last October's annular I let some around me look thru my scope. One of them has become a distant friend, already contacting us about tomorrow's eclipse. She lives in Texas and said "stay away" crowds are already gathering. I'm on the way to Missouri.
  11. Everybody is over here are going crazy-er! Concerned about the weather I have been watching for days to narrow down where to go. My original area was Missouri, the shortest drive. It's a little under 1000 miles one way. Renting a van was easy being all I had to do was reserve it. But, not knowing where I was going, I made the mistake of not checking on a motel. Right now, rooms that would be $100.00 are being priced at $500.00, if they even have one! I rented a van, thinking it would be both my daughters and the 4 grandchildren. Now, it's just SWMBO and me. We might be sleeping in the van! I'm going to make better plans for the one in 2045! Wait! It's here in Florida. I'm taking deposits in camping areas, in 97% totality! Just $150.00 a person per night and the mosquitoes are complimentary!
  12. I would definitely like to have that image. I've seen it, but not imaged it. Now I would have to set up the telescope on the tripod out of the observatory to get below the walls.
  13. Maybe if I hit the lotto. That gives me time to become a millionaire. Would love the chance for SWMBO and myself to meet some members of the SGL!
  14. Can that be used to do some macro?
  15. On the days I work I still have to look at the night sky when it's clear. This morning, I noticed a light I guessed to be a satellite. As I followed it going East it would disappear, then close to 12 seconds appear for a second or more, then disappear again. I've seen iridium flares, perhaps this was junk tumbling. I watched it blink three or 4 times before I stopped watching. Everytime, it was right about 12 seconds till it reappeared.
  16. SWMBO ordered me one of those.
  17. On the night of the 20th I could spot it low on the horizon, bright enough it was visible thru the red colored thin clouds of the sunset. But I was more interested in trying to find the comet.
  18. Definitely not meaning anythihg political, I'm just saying. Don't feel too bad, we came out #25 I think. Me, I'm always happy but I blame the medication! 😜 And those are incredible images.
  19. I was leaving at 5:45 for my GGgrandson's birthday so it was dark as I loaded the car. First really clear sky, no fog or high thin clouds. I hadn't seen a meteor for days, but got lucky to look up at the right time today. Driving by myself gave me time to let my mind wander. How often do you really enjoy a beautiful sunrise? I watched the sky go from black, to a little orange tint in the East. Then it progressed thru dark blue, finally light blue as the Eastern sky filled with sunlight. At last, the sun appeared, bringing on total daylight. It's been going on for billions of years. So many don't give it any thought at all. Thanks, I'm here to witness another day!
  20. Being I'm a tax payer, though a minor one, I'd have to choose between the HST or the JWST! It is a toss up.
  21. Excellent! I can't ever remember seeing the Milkyway in a full arch like that. Here I normally see it as a band across the sky. I'm guessing that's due to my Lat.
