Imaging with the 130pds

I got a solar filter from FLO in the post yesterday and the clouds cleared a little this afternoon. I didn't spend much time taking shots, just watching live, in awe really. Nice to see some Sun spots on my first outing with it.

Had this data a while but not the chance to process. I got the RGB and Ha data on 22nd November and then the Sii and Oiii a couple of nights later. I left the Oiii and Sii running overnight, but had to drop a lot of frames due to cloud.

Kit was 130pds on HEQ5, with ZWO ASI1600mm to capture

Capture details are:
20x 30 sec each of RGB
90x 1min Ha
50x 2min Oiii
55x 2min Sii

Presentations are Ha, HaRGB and SHO with RGB Stars.

Hello Everybody,

Here in little britain, it's cloudy. I want to have some advices for my camera change (next year).

I have an Atik infinity colour for Visual Assisted: short time exposure, no post-treatment, ...

I want an another camera in order to increase the resolution & gets more beautiful colour image of the deep sky.

There are so many cameras & so many manufacturers, that I do not know what I could choose.

What are your advices? thanks for your help (of course with a 130PDS)

Hi Kaelig. A lot depends on your budget (as ever!) For the first 2 years I used the 130pds with a 2nd hand modified 600d that I got for £150 from Camera Jungle. Combined with a coma corrector and IDAS D2 filter it worked really well. Lovely natural colours, and deep reds with an Ha filter. Last year my work bonus bought an asi1600mm. This lets me do full narrowband which has been lots of fun, and really let's me play with colours and presentation.

Hi Bob,

Thank you for your answer. Due the important budget, hence the result is important. I could not buy a camera in the mode see & wait.

The bundle Atik camera and its software is very efficient. Due to the limits of the AZ goto mount, I have bought an equatorial one (EQM-35).

I have also installed a bundle Raspberry 4 with Stellarmate in order to drive the mount & make live plate solving. So my setup changes offer

me new opportunities with better goto accuracy (EQM35), position correction (Ekos) & shoot time.

I see two ways, ATIK or ZWO:

ATIK is the simplier way, I have one, I buy a second one.

ZWO is the more active in this moment, its new products are better. In France, a lot of people buy ZWO products.

but perhaps it is not the good way ... what are you thinking about that?

I must admit I have no experience of ATIK, although they seem to be well thought of. I've got two ZWO cameras, and I've been really pleased with them. I know lots of other happy ZWO users as well, so that would be a good route 👍

Couple of presentations of ngc7822 between Cepheus and Cassiopeia. First one is HaRGB- 2.5 hours of Ha and half an hour of RGB. I then added an hour each of Oiii and Sii, but no Oiii appeared and I had to really work the data to get something out of the Sii. So it’s a bit rough, but hey ho. Might go for a brighter target next…430902869_NGC7822HaRGB201130(1).thumb.jpg.86d2a87c176524027a9430552f4de2a6.jpg

Love this scope. These are my very first images from it and other than a very short image on lagoon nebula my first images at all.

Carina is only Ha Sii with the Duo Band Optolong.

Both are taken with my full modified D5600. Maybe an hour each of data.

Much better images than the very. Heap refractor I first tried with.

A quick process of the Leo Triplet from last night that I managed to grab between the clouds and testing out the new version of PHD2. Very impressed with the new Multi-Star Guiding. Definitely made an improvement for me.

Finally...... A night free of cloud !! Seems like it’s been months and months of solid cloudy weather here, it was nice to get back out with the 130PDS.

This is the Rosette Nebula (NGC 2244).

20x 180 sec each of RGB
15x 90 sec Lum

That's a very nice Rosette - love the colours!

Weather's been the same here; not been able to do anything since mid-October. The few clear nights have all coincided with a near or complete full moon, and the rest has been perpetual cloud cover :clouds1:

Hi everyone

Almost forgot about the old workhorse and a job I'd been meaning to do for ages; replace the 3 rubbish  primary mirror springs with 6 worthy-of-the-job variety.

Anyway, here's a galaxy cluster in leo, based around ngc3189. Not an ideal focal length for a dslr but it's quite nice to see the galaxies in a sea of emptiness.

Cross reference to this post where we discussed light artefacts on the 130pds which seem to happen when there are bright stars just out of the FOV.

Thanks for looking and do keep posting.

Hi everyone. Still plugging away with the blue nebulae. Few and far between it seems.

A bit rough around the edges; it's difficult to set the black because there's stuff everywhere.
