  1. I tip my hat to you. That is incredible! Where are you finding information showing the transit timing?
  2. 25 years! How can our time go by so fast in a universe that spans millennia, and even more? The image I remember most is the long train of pieces approaching Jupiter, heading to their demise.
  3. Yes, great images. I had hoped to see it, only to realize it wasn't visible in North America. So thanks for posting your images.
  4. Excellent image. Thank you. I would have to say this could be the best view I've had of the rille I try to see with my 8" dob.
  5. Another excellent sketch! With all the fine detail visible, what is the actual size of your sketch?
  6. Something special about witnessing a good meteor. Have you noticed how many times they put one in a television commercial?
  7. With the anniversary days away, PBS has been playing "Chasing the Moon." It's had film footage from Mercury, Gemini and Apollo that really surprised me. Also shown many things I never knew. I had no idea that the astronauts of Apollo 7 refused to wear their helmets during reentry because of severe head colds. They never flew again. Also played the recordings from Apollo 1. Knowing what was taking place, it was tough listening to it. Had film footage shot with the Apollo 8's commander's wife, in their home, during the launch and trip around the moon. Seeing her struggling with worry and fear, really brought the risk those men were taking into focus. I think I could watch this again and again.
  8. I am always impressed seeing someone's sketches. I can barely sign my name so you can read it.
  9. Very informative. Definitely shows what you see and what can be done with it.
  10. Appears we're left out on this one in most of North America. Too bad.
  11. Nice image. It also gives me a much better understanding of how low the planets are for you at the higher latitudes.
  12. Everything I've done so far is single images. I've found like its said here so many times, seeing conditions are almost everything. The planets are fairly high for me now so that helps. With my 8" DOB and Canon SL1 this has been my best eyepiece projection of Jupiter. Saturn is still a struggle for me. Hang in there, enjoy what you do accomplish as you gain experience.
  13. Incredible image. Thanks for posting it. I have great interest in the Apollo missions, being I Iive here in central Florida. I went to the Cape and watched Apollo 7 and 11 launch from five miles away. You didnt just see it, you felt it! Also witnessed the others from across the state. Still burned into my memory.
  14. Being we're discussing movies, I know it's not really Apollo related, but the movie "Hidden Figures" is also a good one. Shows some incredible women who almost went unrecognized, and the times we were dealing with as well.
  15. When your in the twilight of totality the change is incredible. I'm pretty sure that at noon, it was Venus we could see shining.
  16. I'm totally amazed at what everyone is doing with 3d printing. I'll be anxiously waiting for more photos.
  17. Very nice images! To think the GRS is larger than the Earth. We live in an amazing Solar System.
  18. The monster in my head woke me around midnight but I fought back for a while. Finally I gave up the fight and got out of bed at 1:15. Taking the dogs out I saw once again it was very clear. Jupiter was shining brilliantly being 15 degrees past its zenith. I went back in and grabbed my binoculars, put them on a camera tripod and hurried back out. Seeing Jupiter made me wish I had time to use my dob, but oh well. Its four large moons were three to the left and one to the right. With the sky so clear, I turned and to my surprise quickly found M31. Its core stood out clearly and even not having time for my eyes to adapt, I could being to make out some of its shape. Turning away from it, I took a fast look at Antares, then scanning from it was able to find M4. It was a bit more distinct than M31. All in all, a nice 15 or 20 minutes.
  19. Quite impressive! I've been attempting to get it with my 8" dob and Canon using prime focus, but it's slow going with only occasional passes where I live. To get it transiting the sun is amazing.
  20. A belated happy birthday. I've always worried when wives started to get together when it involves something I enjoy. There is power in numbers.
  21. Great image. I do enjoy seeing one of the moons being more than a bright speck.
  22. Amazing images. Thanks for posting them.
  23. I can only speak for wide field meteor imaging, but here in central Fla aircraft are much more of an issue. Certain departure times will have one after another for several minutes.
