mdstuart
What about this for a supernova candidate? That looks like a supernova to the top left.
gorann
Amazing image and I could not find a single hot pixel😁. Does anyone know what filters were used and how they were combined to an RGB image?
Zermelo
Just to pick out one small area as a comparison between HST and JWST: I think that's just about identical, but the frame is rotated a bit between the two. You can see just how much more is in the JWST, both in terms of extra detail in the JWST and whole objects that aren't shown in HST at all. OK, so Biden had something come up on international affairs at the last minute, that's fair enough - but if you've successfully mitigated 1001 things that might go wrong to prevent you from getting the image of the century, you might have anticipated that one, too. If I were on the science team, I'd feel a bit peeved. It looks like it will be NASA TV all the way later on, then:
Macavity
Interested re. the what/where... Could I be of competition? lol https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SMACS_J0723.3-7327 But I see (or rather won't) it's in VOLANS... 😼 It would be interested in approximate magnitude though! 🙃 Edited July 12, 2022 by Macavity

Laurieast
Lots of info here: Webb's First Deep Field Unveiled (NIRCam Image) Color InfoThese images are a composite of separate exposures acquired by the James Webb Space Telescope using the NIRCam instrument. Several filters were used to sample broad wavelength ranges. The color results from assigning different hues (colors) to each monochromatic (grayscale) image associated with an individual filter. In this case, the assigned colors are: Red: F444W Orange: F356W Green: F200W + F277W Blue: F090W + F150W Download Options: Full Res, 4537 X 4630, TIF (26.74 MB) Full Res, 4537 X 4630, PNG (28.51 MB) 1960 X 2000, PNG (5.52 MB) Text description, PDF (80.29 KB) https://webbtelescope.org/contents/media/images/2022/038/01G7JGTH21B5GN9VCYAHBXKSD1 Edited July 12, 2022 by Laurieast 2

900SL
The interesting stuff will be in the gravitational lensing, as that group is only a 'mere' few billion light years away I think they are releasing some more interesting stuff today, Carina Nebula, Stefans Quintet. Maybe get to the bottom of the red shift anomaly with the Quasar? Going to be a terrific scientific instrument assuming it doesn't fail in service. Fingers crossed.
