I don't either.  I'd guess though that where traditional DSLRs have a mirror in front of the sensor to reflect the image up to the viewer, the advent of high resolution screens on the backs of camera bodies renders the viewer redundant (because anything visible in the viewer can be displayed on the screen), so the mirror is equally redundant and can be disposed of.  (I guess you could even have an entirely electronic viewer driven from the camera sensor, which would still leave the mirror redundant.)

Yes, mirrorless has no mirror.  My Sony 6500 has an electronic viewfinder as well as the display on the back.
