A few months ago I bought GrumpyMartian's VX8, but it had a Losmandy dovetail on its rings. and the only saddles I have here where I am in the UK for a couple of weeks are all Vixen. Therefore ... an adapter, courtesy of RVO, to avoid having to really tediously de-dovetail my LZOS and re-screw it onto the VX8's holes.

Next day delivery!

It might be a bit over the top as Dob bearings go, but, my word, it's rock solid. I can see now where most of the Dob base flex was and the remaining flex is in the side rocker pieces - shortly to be braced. Expensive, but worth every penny. It does come without lubrication so that to sort next.

Will need to add some method of friction to provide a bit of resistance to turning otherwise one push and it will spin round  for ages.

The Dob base has a tightening bolt in the middle :wink2:

Have done a similar bearing mod and it did need something to add friction. The centre bolt isn’t enough and the bearing will run rough if over tightened. I used a couple of stick on felt pads to add just a bit of friction.

New AZ4 on steel tripod. Super super pleased with it. Very simple design but works a treat, very solid. The 1.75” tripod was heftier and more solid than I expected, yet the whole lot is so much lighter than my Skytee on 2” tripod. The rubber coated feet was a nice touch too. It seems able to cope with scope imbalances without too much stiffness or stiction in the alt axis. Plus it seems to have been designed specifically for 4” F7 refractor! All for £190 (or £155 in my case) - a bargain! Had a nice session observing the sun at 170x and the mount was steady and smooth.

This actually arrived a few months back courtesy of some bandit using a 'Brushing' scam via Amazon:

It sat in our downstairs cupboard for a while until I got it out to have a look and realised it'd make a great telescope/mount cover as the inside has a silvery UV-resistant covering!

Takahashi FC-L tall tripod..made from solid mahogany with adjustable legs and "Tak Green" furniture..IMG_20220318_130423238_HDR.thumb.jpg.86e071b8b2984c4de918f6b800562833.jpg

My FS128, "Trinity", which I've now had for 5 years, came to me with this exact tripod: however, I sold it quite soon afterwards as I felt my existing trusty but fixed height old home built tripod built by another amateur over 10 years ago was a bit more rigid..

I always thought Trinity looked her best on the Tak tripod though, and as I'm increasingly tending to sit to observe, I decided to pounce when I saw this one for sale.

I think the adjustments available with the Tak tripod will suit me better - especially when viewing lower altitude objects like M42, Sirius, Scorpio etc..and, of course, the more I lower the tripod, the more stable it will be!

It arrived today, from Scotland, in very nice condition and I'm chuffed with it..I will keep the old tripod for my trusty old Vixen SP102, on which it will be as solid as a rock..😊👍.

Dave

Dave. Very nice set ups. Save switching tripods I guess too.
Enjoy.  John

Just the job for the EM-2 Dave, looks great. I thought of you when I saw the ad, did you get the shorter legs as well?
