What did the postman bring?

Wish me luck with fitting this Telrad Pulsar!😬

Last night of observing I found I was manually dimming the reticle a lot during Alignment, so hopefully this should do the trick as long as I don’t wreck the Telrad in the process.

Success! 😅😁

Found this job was quite simple, only snag was me having to convert to metric then find the closest drill.

wire connectors worked well and all fitted back in ok.

flashing reticle now working fine.

You guessed it, the new, improved Rowan AZ75, now with a bluey whiteness other powders can’t match, wait, sorry got a bit carried away there 😉.

It’s a little taller and wider plus has a few other tweaks for us to check out. Nearly there hopefully.

Feet for the Dob! For the mirror end of the tube so I can stand it on its end. The Collimation and locking knobs, and fan, all protrude out the end so not easy to stand it upright. These will fix that.

Nice one. How are you going to fix them on? I'd be very nervous of drilling holes so near to the mirror! 😱 Glue?

More parts arriving for my upcoming PI dedicated PC build. 32 GB of RAM came yesterday with another 32GB in the post, a total of 64GB RAM @3600MHz should certainly see an increase in performance compared to my old build with 16GB. We're still having unbelievably bad weather up here in the Lakes with the very rare clear nights since December either been too windy or the early 4am starts for work  which I do alternately are typically falling the morning after any clear night 🙄

Its these inactive nights that get my brain thinking of projects to fill my time with whilst not imaging & this has resulted in the new PC build. I recently came across a YouTube video all about a small very niche hobby which I didn't  know even existed, never mind actually been a 'thing' & thats custom build mechanical keyboards, these keyboards can cost well over 3k (Yes you read that correctly £3K 😱)...... i've been sucked in 😂 My first board arrived yesterday, its at the cheaper end of this market so I could see what the fuss is about & I have to say that typing on it is a surprisingly nice experience. I've ordered custom keycaps, buying them is a minefield as each brand has a certain weight, sound etc (Sad I know 🤣) so i'll be spending the weekend stripping the board down, sound proofing it & lubing the switches....Don't ask 🤣 Anyway, its keeping my brain busy.

A few goodies today.

IMG_20220303_125905.thumb.jpg.b93400d59efd7aedfe59d34c155a9dde.jpg

From left to right: Explore Scientific 2x Focal extender. I ordered this in November! Should prove superior to the cheap Svbony Barlow I had as a stopgap.

New StellaLyra 68° 18mm EP. Taking a punt on this as an intermediate step in both focal length and price with my other EPs. Review to come when it stops raining!

Hurricane lens/mirror blower.

Produced from 1984 to 2005, this excellent-condition teleconverter arrived today.

I have owned the 2x version since the mid-90s, when I left Canon for Pentax.

I can see LVWs, SLVs and NPLs.....

All Vixen

  • 22mm and 13mm LVW
  • 15mm SLV
  • 2x 10mm NLPs
  • 1.25" prism diagonal
  • 2x 'deluxe' barlow

Some were a job-lot, so I might be offloading a few bits.

The latter 2 items have pretty old-school clamp screws so not really designed for anything heavy, but my completist bone is itching!

I used the exact same thing as these (4cm length) on the base of my SL Dobsonian. This allows me to easily use the new sack barrow for wheeling the complete telescope around as necessary. Works great.

First dibs please if you decide to offload the LVWs or SLV! Might be interested in the NPLs as well for my forthcoming binoviewer project, though I really need something with a longer f/l and eye relief.

DHL just brought a big box and a small package. Ordered from Ian at Altair Astro late Wednesday night - certainly can't fault the turnaround.  Just needs the right mounting plate - the EQ8R-pro doesn't support vixen.

So , yesterday I took ownership of a 8” TS Optics CC and an EQ5 . As it’s raining outside ( for the last 3 days.. grrr) I set up the EQ5 indoors .. a couple of minor issues but was delighted to see that skywatcher provide a polar scope in the deluxe model ( the polar scope I bought at the same time will be returned ) so here is the mount .. and the scope .

Thank you @callistoand the Widescreen Centre
