And about time too! I've been following various  posts for a while, and I'm hoping that I can now tap into the practical experiences of the SGL community. I've a Meade LX200 and a Williams Optics refractor and am keen to get some decent images.

Hi and welcome to SGL - If you are interested in imaging (particularly DSO's) then the best thing you can do is buy the book 'Making Every Photon Count' available here http://www.nightskyimages.co.uk/ - This will really help you to understand what you need and why.
