Hi, Bob, and a warm welcome to SGL! I am just the other side of Pendle to you - and as you have already found, observing in East lancs can be "challenging"!! ("Taking the plunge" says it all today!!). I haven't been myself, but one resource you may like to check out is the Todmorden Astronomy Centre on the main road between Bacup and Todmorden. You could also check under thre "Social Groups" on SGL's main page - there are a couple of groups in Preston. Hope that helps. Martin

How about some of the "Astromedia" kits? The 'Kepler Telescope' 'Periscope' and 'Small Galileo Scope' are all cheap enough (can't manage the link for some reason - but FLO have them!) I made some of these with my nephew - great fun and instructive! -
I agree wholeheartedly with Spike above - The 20PX is a good balance of price, weight and performance.

Oh boy, what have I gotten myself into...

Welcome to SGL - and to the worlds of amateur astronomy! That is a very nice scope you have there and should give you many years of good service! (along with your other scopes!!!) -
