Is tonight first showing of new Sky at night?

Have it recorded ready for teatime viewing tonight. But it sounds very promising which is great news. I saw Maggie on Stargazing Live and thought she was going to be okay. In a way i could see why she had been chosen. She has a quirky, off beat fast delivery that fits in with Sir PM's early presenting.

I watched Chris Lintot speak at astrofest yesterday, and he was enthusiastic witty and very informative in his presentation, there was a spark that SPM would have been proud to see!,  something that I think he has been hld back from doing in S@N since SPM passed away.

Chris is an excellent public speaker, perhaps the scripted nature of a TV programme is a bit more restrictive?

Good programme last night, just a shame it's only on for half an hour.

Yes, the worst bit of the show for me too - I thought Helen Czerski delivered well though and almost Brain Coxesque (if that's a phrase).

Echo other's comments on the use of 'amateurs' etc and looking forward to the next one.

I couldn't agree more, Czerski is good but like you the first time I saw her I did think she must have been to the Brian Cox school of presenting! Dr Maggie Aderin-Pocock though I saw a while back on something and just thought she was in the wrong area. Her english is excellent and clear and her delivery is good, just her whole style is not for hardcore documentaries where the majority of viewers are pretty into their science. She's over enthusiastic and it feels somewhat condescending.

We 'amateur' scientists pride ourselves in our knowledge and she just doesn't seem to believe that joe public is educated.

However she would be brilliant on children's TV

Mr Lintot though is the perfect replacement for the incredible Mr Moore.

Are you listening BBC?

I thought the S@N new format was great, far more focused on people like us.

The focus on the supanova was expected, but style and use of amateurs is really nice. (playing to their audience!)

Nice challenge to the Jupiter imaging folks, to capture a complete rotation.

(I think one or two of the JUP pics where heavily over processed and over saturated.)

On the subject of Maggie, I think great on her, it is not a easy profession to be a female in.

Being the first time she is co-anchor and the focus must be nerve racking, given time I am sure she will settle in.

She is enthusiastic, quirky and brings a different perspective to the audience, much like Sir PM.

IMHO, given time, I think Maggie may become the P.Moore of the next generation and I am sure he would have supported the move as he was all about opening up Astronomy to a wider audience.

I'm sure it's really difficult to achieve a balance on the level of content when you only have half an hour a month to play with.  You're probably right that most of the viewers are astro enthusiasts but I do know of a few people who enjoy watching the programme but only have a casual interest in astronomy.

I really enjoyed the show and thought Maggie made a great start.

Though it's touted as a refresh of the format, last night's show actually reminded me of the Sky at Night of old before SPM was effectively housebound.  Good interviews with experts, good balance of content.  I am sure they will tweak things as it progresses but I am pleased we still have it on air...

Great show - well done to all involved.

Series link doesn't work as BBC haven't given Sky the program info to tell the sky+ what to do and when, this maybe due the fact it isn't a weekly program. Luckily the +hd boxes have a search function so you can see listings for the week and choose what you wish to record, otherwise get up and running with on demand and catchup through bbc iplayer on the +hd box ;)

I thoroughly enjoyed the show. I like all the presenters and the content was very good.

Maggie is great and has made a marvelous start to the new format - long may it continue.

Nice to see some SGL'ers images on there as well.

I thoroughly enjoyed it - good balance in article types, great presenters and good subject matter...augurs well for the rest of the series. My only criticism is that it felt rushed. Given that the show is now limited to 30 mins once a month, and no longer on one of the "main" channels (presumably reflecting the "specialist" interest subject matter = limited audience mindset of the BBC) surely the Beeb could extend the run time (especially given the number of repeats)? Even a meagre ten minutes more (for a 40 minute run time) would make all the difference in my view.

Just sat down and watched it; wife at work; little fella at school; cup of tea made...............excellent; really enjoyed the programme; better than I was expecting. Presentation was very good I thought by all concerned.

I thoroughly enjoyed last nights show, Chris delivers very well and you get his enthusiasm which is great for novices like me. I have a slight crush on Helen Czerski, probably too tall for me though! Maggie is great, seemed a tad nervous to me but that will fade given time.

I especially like the angle of bringing amatuers more into the show, we're not all super scientists with degrees in physics so to see S@N become a bit more apporachable is great in my view, it always felt a bit too far beyond me in the past.

Great stuff, looking forward to the next episode.

Agree with many of you here that the show was a really good watch. Should definitely be a 45 min show though, maybe an hour. 30 mins did feel a bit rushed. The content was good though and presented in a way that should appeal to newbies and experienced alike.

I thought the pairing of Chris and Maggie got off to a great start. Maggie seems to be playing the role of the enthusiastic amateur to Chris's expert, although we all know she is far from an amateur in these things. This pairing is akin to the way Dara O'Briain and Brian Cox present SGL and I think it works great.

I don't watch enough TV to be sure, but I didn't see the BBC making much effort to plug this relaunch. Just glad it's back.

Just finishing watching it. Thoroughly enjoyed it. Also had a chuckle part way through as i realised what the producers had done. They had gone out and found a female clone of Prof Brian Cox (Dr Helen), shes very good. Very watchable. And they also found a female substitute for the younger Sir PM in Maggie. Shes every bit as eccentric with a warp speed delivery and quirky head and facial movements. She just needs a monocle to complete the look. All works very well indeed.

Because I always seemed to miss TV transmissions I downloaded iPlayer Desktop which has a download/remind feature.

I set it for a S@N series link some time ago and forgot about it but when I switched on this evening a reminder popped up. So it works well!

Having just watched it I was pleasantly surprised :)

I could have happily watched an hour of it. The content was excellent and well presented, as always.

I even liked Maggie's impression of John Culshaw! :D

But seriously, I like "quirky" and Maggie is very quirky. I'm sure she'll settle into the role very well.

I didnt see the whole show, but i have seen Dr Maggie Aderin-Pocock on other shows and i like her and her presenting style. I did see a couple minutes of the show where there was another female presenter (i think she took Lucie Green's place this month) and she was talking about the weather on Jupiter etc. I was not sold on her presenting skills.

I'll watch the repeat.

Ive warmed to Chris since SPM passed away, and Pete L is always good. Paul Able etc.................no complain either.

JC is my only gripe.

I enjoyed watching the program tonight on the Humax recorder.

So much so that I decided to dust off the 3-inch reflector scope, and have a good look at Jupiter, the moon, and the Orion Nebula.

Not bad for someone recovering from minor surgery for the last 2-weeks.

So I think Sir Patrick Moore would be proud.

All he wanted to do was encourage the British public to enjoy his hobby, and share his passion.

Job done.

Sorry I can't be bothered to read through 4-pages of moaning, whinging, bitching, trolling, and bad mouthed comments.

But I really enjoyed the program, and the delivery.

No-one is forcing you to watch it.
