Quick hello from Hull

Hi my name is Roger, I bought a heritage 130 last year and used it a couple of times. I have a few books but struggle to know what I'm looking at. It anybody lives in my local area and wants to meet up to give me a few pointers or would be greatly appreciated. I am determined not to give up

A big welcome from a former dweller of Hull, I lived there for almost 32 years. I was on both sides of the City starting in Willerby, just on Kingston Rd and then going over to Chestnut Farm.

Hope you enjoy the site there are many people that know there stuff no matter what you do in the field of Astronomy.

Hi, Roger, and welcome from me, too.

If you download SkySafari or Stellarium (free) they may help you to know what you're looking at. There are many books that can help, too, and among the best is 'Turn Left at Orion' - a cracking and very rewarding book for any budding stargazer.

You have already found this forum and there is a knowledge base here that is astounding ... Just ask the question and someone will, almost definitely, be able to help.

Best advice I can give, apart from the above, is - have fun on your journey.

There appears to be one at Goole but they have a facebook page and no apparent webpage, and the facebook page looks like the last date was late 2014.

Very convenient one at the University, looks active. May have to drop the University bit, one page says:

Room LT27 Wilberforce Building, University of Hull

another says:

The Hull & East Riding Sports Club on Chanterlands Avenue.

A third at Beverley:

Friends Meeting House, Quaker Lane, Beverley.

So you have a choice but it still depends on when they meet and what you think of the club set up.

I suppose going over the bridge means a toll payment at least one way.

To find things I still suggest a book you can follow, binoculars and a good warm coat.

You just have to stand there and work out what should be where and then look to see if it is.
