  1. I made one out of an old RDF a couple of months back
  2. The last one is a very interesting prom capture!
  3. I have wondered myself about people who have been regulars, then you are suddenly aware they have not visited for ages. I guess astronomy is a new passion for a short time for some people, rather than a "lifetime" interest for others, or just that life changes curtail that interest . I was keen astronomer during my childhood, right up to discovering pubs and romance and raising a family. I have been on here 10 years this December it has gone so quick!
  4. Some nice detail visible there, despite the best efforts of the UK seeing conditions.
  5. It might just about be visible from my current "Planetary spot" down the garden. 12 degrees is very low though!
  6. I ended up getting both, very pleased with the performance of them. There is a lot of good info on here. https://www.prairieastronomyclub.org/filter-performance-comparisons-for-some-common-nebulae/
  7. According to http://www.spaceweather.com/ a possible display noctilucent clouds is predicted for the 2nd/3rd June. Due to spinning nature around the polar region of the current clouds, they are predicting their return to European skies this weekend. It would be easily my earliest view of the year by over a month!
  8. Excellent images as always Avani, some very nice detail visible there. The polar hex is particularly prominent.
  9. Superb captures Avani, interesting to see the effects of the different filters used.
  10. I saw my 1st ones at around 3am, got up ridiculously early to photograph them before work. I remember feeling very jaded at work later, but still buzzing from the thrill of seeing them!
  11. I don't what you have presented is an obvious artefact, it is real. the image view is different from the eye piece view for many reasons. The colour is the most obvious. My Lunt shows a red image, this is not real either just a result of the filtration. I then image in monochrome, then change it to orange purely for aesthetic reasons, the Sun has been depicted as orange for centuries in art. Stacking and processing I think is just a way of beating the conditions. Yes we are amateur "scientists" and yes, just occasionally I certainly do have delusions of grandeur 😀😀😀 Seriously though, many contributions to science have been made by people to ourselves.
  12. Hi welcome to SGL from Peter in Bedfordshire 🙂
