Venus is getting closer to The Pleiades! Here is a shot from tonight (4/2). A little sky lore: this open star cluster is known as the Seven Boys to the Cherokee. Seven little boys wanted to play instead of work.Their mothers scolded them but it did no good. One day, the mothers boiled rocks for their dinner. The boys became angry, went down to the townhouse and danced around in circle, praying to the spirits to help them. The boys danced and rose into the air. Their mothers looked for them in fear and saw the boys rising higher and higher into the air. One of the mothers was able to pull her son down, but he fell into the earth. Her tears caused a tall pine to emerge from the site, reaching into the sky. The other six boys continued to rise until they became became stars in the sky. Since that time, the Cherokee referred to this open star cluster as "The Seven Boys". Most of the time, you can see at least six of these stars with the naked eye, but sometimes you can see a seventh. Now is the time to see it in the western sky before it's lost in the evening twilight as spring progresses...
Clear skies!
