Only the best of the best on Solarchat!     🙂

Always feel I'd need to do the full monty on processing to put them on solar chat rather than my usual two minutes 😂

Congrats! Very nice piccy. Don't forget us at SGL now that you are famous and hanging out with the kool kats at solarchat!!!

The folks there seem very helpful and it's a really interesting site. I was reading a bunch of threads there yesterday.

Thanks Luke, na, I'll not forget this lovely forum and it's lovely people. It's this forum where I've developed my solar imaging/observation skills. So I'm here to stay and help others if wanted.

Congratulations Nigella!  :) A very worthy SC POD.

I found that specialisation was a fast track route to improving my own solar images.
And, abject poverty if I tried to compete at the highest level.  :p

Though you certainly don't need to spend a fortune if you take the self-build, modification and secondhand route.
Nor will you ever be sneered at for doing so. Results, in the form of new and better images, or new ideas, are what count.

The advantage of SC is its incredible knowledge base and ready willingness to share every detail.
The feeling is a cooperative desire for constant improvement via capture, processing and equipment choice.
Ideas are tried and exchanged for modification and trying new ways of using unlikely combinations of tools.

Such an environment provides a solid base for specialist equipment manufacturers to invest in R&D and production.
Knowing that their highly specialised wares will find a ready, if relatively small, market.
Where their equipment, or software, will be pushed beyond their wildest hopes by those best able to do so.
Producing images which might easily be mistaken for professional results.

This is the unique advantage of pushing the envelope by such a varied band of clever, inventive and dedicated individuals.
There is now a move towards using larger apertures, like SCTs, to produce quite incredible surface detail.

Nobody is poached from the more generalised forums. Nobody is hooded and dragged away screaming for their mums! :wink2:
When you discover that your own results are steadily improving, you will still find a ready audience here, for your latest images.
Probably leading to investment in more specialised equipment, or accessories, by the familiar, forum members.

You can start solar imaging with any "normal" astro refractor. Just by adding well proven and SAFE filters or accessories.
You dip your toes and are excited by your results? Then what?
It is your choice in how far you want to climb the path to producing stunning images like Nigella's.

And there’s still a place for us non-imagers too, just like here on SGL.
I would love to be able to produce images like Nigella’s, but what holds me back is the added complexity to a part of the hobby I enjoy more than any other - and the knowledge that I am fairly hopeless with technology. Also, I only have a manual mount..... and yet, I’d love to see just what sort of images are possible with my scope.

So true Highburymark, always a place for non-imagers.

Great image and well done on the accolade! I have very little experience of solar (observing or imaging), but I'm also quote keen to get involved at some point. I have a Baader filter for my 80ED but have somehow never got round to it.

Anyway, congrats once again!

Thanks badhex. I find the Sun fascinating and as activity increases now we're passed solar minimum it'll become even more dramatic over the coming years. Of course you don't loose any sleep either which I like, lol.
