Scots newbie with inevitable questions

Hi folks,

Joined up here to browse the classifieds and gain some experience /knowledge from you fine folk

Im based north of Aberdeen so have some nice dark skies at home.

Currently just using my Camera for Astro but will be investing in a telescope setup soon as i was gifted a skyshed

All of the images (other than the southern hemisphere ones) were taken at home

As Roni has already said, your sky gives you a great start, as almost any scope is to be desired under a truly dark sky.

Was nice and clear (baltic) last night with the moon up so attempted the orion nebula with the 70-300mm

Seing this sort of potential makes me really want to get the scope,mount and camera sorted!

What settings did you use for the Orion Nebula?

I think it is a blood moon. I doubt you could lift a lens that would give a shot like that.

That was 30seconds, 300mm (crop so 480mm), f5.6, iso 800, Canon 750d non modified, ioptron skytracker.

Im able to get longer with the ioptron but the near full moon was too bright last night for anything more

i am very lucky with the dark skies and lots of sky as im up on a hill. Was also very lucky to be given one of these which will get my basic telescope (Celestron 130) set up into soon.

Note: there is a hole cut out of the deck now which has a concrete base for mounting my pillar to

Welcome to SGL! beautiful images, the fourth one down has to be my fav of them, very pretty indeed, I do notice the Large Magellanic Cloud in your images, you're in the southern hemisphere?.
