Just saying hello - I'm Alex from Chorley, and fairly new to astronomy. I've a Celestron 8" SCT on their AVX mount, which seems to give equal parts joy and frustration :-) Joy when I first pointed it at Jupiter; frustration when it first fogged up! Now in the process of building a power tank and acquiring some dew control, ahead of the autumn evenings

Welcome to SGL, Alex. I have a predecessor of your scope, the GP-C8 (C8 on the Vixen Great Polaris mount), which has been my main scope for nearly 20 years. I find a dew shield is sufficient nine times out of ten. A dew strip is needed only on very long sessions, and in very humid conditions
