Hi Neil,

After our discussion on the riser for the Berlebach Castor, I thought of you when I saw this up for sale, and I am pleased that you got it.  What a result.....:headbang2:

Thanks Steve! Really chuffed with it! As you said, I’ll never need to worry about the mount for the Tak now. Just get on and use it 😁

Is that yours, Paul?

Are you coming back to your senses, er, I mean, to the dark side of refractors??

It looks great, one of the few frac finishes other than white that I can stomach!😜🤣

Seriously, congratulations, and enjoy that lightweight beauty!👍

Many thanks Dave, don't tell anyone, but I have two smaller refractors.  I'm not fussy, I'll look through anything 🙂

I lusted after one when it was on special offer the first time round, last year.  Then they go and put it on offer for the current sale, and then I notice there was one available even cheaper  that was a return.  A man can only resist for so long before he crumbles 😊.

Thank you for your good wishes. Can't wait to try it out.

So, another hobby that is weather dependant !!!  Cant remember the last time I saw a star, or a dry road. Lol

This is new to me today. Though the post man didnt bring it, I went and got it.

I’ve often looked at Laser Collimators but have never tried one. So for £13, I thought I’d give it a go. I’m curious to see how well collimated my Dob is using this. IMG_4066.thumb.jpeg.908cb8bcf249a31f9afa287f7ab718c8.jpeg

Postman delivered this little guy, courtesy of a french gentleman who had no use for it anymore. Sadly, this didn't dissipate the clouds we've had for what feels like a century now :(  So I havent been able to properly test it.

It's basically a stripped down AZ-GTi, with only one function : tracking the sun. It seems very easy to use, just turn it on and it will find and track our star for you. No more messing up with the Synscan app, Wifi madness and everything. It even came with 8 AA batteries, which is perfect for quick grab and go.

Can't wait to try it with my Daystar Quark !

Hello. Postman delivered yesterday. I'd been looking for a nice handle to go with my Tak clamshell on my FS128. Saw an advert from Steve @Saganite for a Vixen handle in white. Snapped it up. So glad I did.

Found that the allen bolt that came with it was approx 7/8 mm too short. No problem. Was able to sort a suitable bolt/washer/nut combo from the shed.

Paint job commenced. I like to do airplane model kits. Always have done since being a kid. Similar to my astro hobby. Anyhow, checked my paint pot supplies and came across a Revell, Aqua Color pot containing "Himmelblau" colour (Sky,matt) No 59.  Had been used as part of a paint job for a Messerschmitt BF109E version Circa 1940. A great match to the Tak Green (Mint) paint colour. Photos don’t quite show how good - weird ??

Really pleased with the result and a nice match up of Takahashi / Vixen kit.       John

Check the laser is collimated first I have had two of those and both needed collimating. The first one went in the bin it would not hold collimation dont know why had it doing a 2mm circle at 26ft but put it in the scope it was nowhere near checked again and it wasnt collimated.

Three days I and many hours I tried in the end I smashed it with a hammer out of frustration.

Thanks Paul. This one had been collimated in a lathe so should be good. Will definitely give it a check to make sure though 👍

I can see a certain parallels here,
Your named John, You Model make and
Have a Handle thing going one..... Sounds a familiar tale for one late of this parish (RIP John in Derby).
Oh and your oop North to me.

Got a cheap short tripod with a geared center column that I had planned on using with my AZ Pronto mount and 50mm converted finder.  You get what you pay for.  😜

I was about to box it back up and return it, when I decided to put a ballhead mount on it and try it with some binos like the mini-tripod solution in another thread.

Bazinga!  Much less shaking with my 15x70s after extending one section on each leg and handholding it.  Couldn't test it extensively, but I think I'll keep it.

Alan. Very flattered being mentioned in the same phrase as @johninderby

Sanity confirms while John was premier league when it came to his help and knowledge, I am definitely more NorthernPremier league.
Had many dealings with John. Always a pleasure with his knowledge, patience and time freely given to us lesser Astro mortals.
Miss his posts and updates. Pretty sure a comment would have come against my latest “handle” post.

The postman brought a ZWO Canon EF filter drawer today. My alternative to a Canon 6D mobile setup is finished now and finally I can play with wider fields and L-eXtreme filter under Bortle 9. 😊 5kg in total.
