Could the quality of our UK skies justify a £33K telescope purchase ????

The candle of desire burns brightly through the mists of common sense

Bit like there’s no reason to buy a Ferrari when a Kia would get you to the shop and back just fine.  ?

Or, back to the astro world, why buy a £2.5K Takahashi when a £700 ED100 will do 95% (maybe more ?) of the job :icon_scratch:

A few months ago I had a discussion with a cloudynights member about TECs. He had had a TEC200 but sold it because he lost all will to move it around or take it out to share it with the public. He now has a TEC160FL...

Attached is a photo of the box the TEC200 arrived in...

Thats a coffin.

33k for an 8" refrac??????????

I know refracs are expensive the more aperture you buy.

I bet it gives killer views of the planets.

I agree. It would need an Obsy to house it. What mount...............i have no clue.

And the TEC does't have a lump of "stuff" getting in the way.

TBH I think I'd rather have a TEC 160, or even a 140 plus FF and a 12" RC for smaller targets, plus a DDM85 std. There'd be money left over for a 16200 cam and Astrodon 3nm filters.
