Hi all just wondering if there anyone out there that can build me a bespoke dobsonian mount for my 10” f5.5 maksutov Newtonian, sadly the late david Lukehurst was earmarked for the project, it will need a drive servocat or similar and nexus dsc thanks stu

Hi all just received a 18” dob with servocat and nexus ( multi functional?) but I’ve a handset with the servocat but can any recommend a handset for the nexus I think the previous owner used a iPad ? I can’t get the the back of the nexus unit to get the number for Wi-Fi application as it’s glued solid to the rocker box! Can I plug in a nexus handset into the servocat ? Instead of a laptop or iPad ? Thanks all stu

Gifted 18” dob missing. Truss poles clamp
stuy posted a topic in Discussions - Scopes / Whole setups
Hi all I was very fortunate to receive a well made 18” dob with servocat and all the trimmings but we have a few missing parts. Before I get some fabricated just wondering if these were sold it’s a clamp that pulls the 2 truss tubes together from above on the secondary housing photos attached they do look like they were professionally manufactured ! Thanks stu thanks -
Well my take is I’ve used serious quality scopes ranging from high end 12” newtons , 11.5 mak cass , 10”mak newt And now a 9” apo ! All of them once cooled and collimated blew me away under fantastic seeing ! So I would say bang for buck is a newton maybe 10”/12/“ F6 . As I’ve got older I really love the HD effect the refractor gives and thus it’s my goto scope permanently mounted in a obsy ready to go . But honestly any good quality scope of all configurations will blow you away when the seeing allows just it’s just so rare in the Uk these night’s people question their scopes , but in reality they are good

Hi all is it me or has the last 6 months been the worse I can remember, constantly raining or cloud ! We’ve all invested seriously large sums of money and I do sometimes question my sanity! On what we do but one good clear night with really good seeing and we seem to forget the months of frustration. I can see people coming out of the hobby in the Uk due to the weather here it’s a sad fact . i

As far as I know there isn’t another 9” lzos here may be wrong , a few 8” tho I think, it really is a pleasure to use planetary view in good seeing is quite extraordinary the contrast is incredible especially in the binoviewer! It’s a lump that’s for sure ! But stays in observatory but the mak newt is portable just!! -

I had some of the best seeing early morning today giving breathtaking views of the both Jupiter and Saturn with wind speeds of 31/ms at 9000m. I don’t expect much but how wrong was I ! Saturn showing C ring really well a difficult part of the ring at times also SPR showing a bluish tinge , equatorial regions showing lovely individual bands of various intensity, jupiter was a joy to behold stock steady at 400x lovely festoon in NEB and a very small oval in SSTB only complaint was the transparency was around 6-7/10 but seeing was 9+ /10 that bit of lacking transparency was robbing me of the EZ structure I’ve seen before with this scope just goes to show make the use of each clear night , the seeing in the UK can be like a lottery at times but when you get these special nights it makes it worth it scope 9” f9 lzos APO with zeiss binoviewer and various zeiss and takahashi eyepieces
