I'm going to start this by saying that in the last 12 months I've been lucky enough to meet Shane, anybody else who knows him will agree with me that if you need a hand he's the first to offer, good advise?..straight from his mouth, advise worth listening too...salt of the earth, decent bloke....Friend. I had been browsing Ebay, AB&S...etc for a bigger scope not to dis the 12.5" its a fantastic tool for the sky..but yep app fever sorta creeps up and grabs you...and I've got this in my head and its not going away until now. Shane put me on to a mirror that was on offer made by John Nichol of Nichol Optic and the deal was done. John was on the phone with updates and info about the mirror and is always happy to help and answer any questions..it's then sent to Orion Optics for a hilux coating and a week later its picked up along with a custom made spider by Orion Optics also. Pm's are exchanged and Shane swings into action! Pitfalls are avoided because this is one clever craftsman! all threw the build I was telling Shane to take his time as I was in no rush for the scope and I was beginning to see the amount of work i'd created for him! I apologize here and now to his wife and family! I opted for a feather touch focuser, Telrad and a 9x50 orion finderscope (all bases covered here)..and to help Shane to balance the scope parts were supplied so to be fitted and checked along the way. A steady flow of updates, pics and pm's came and got me more excited with each one! When I finally went to pick the scope up on sunday..I saw it for the first-time stained and together...finished... and i'll tell you now..astonished, absolutely blown away I was..i'm still pinching myself now. This man works wonders with wood! so thank-you John for the mirror..Orion for the coating and spider...but last of all thank-you Shane, thank-you for creating the most beautiful scope I've ever seen. Superb Calvin

Shane is a real craftsman and his work is robust too - my "Moonshane" dob mount is working and looking exactly as it did when it was first delivered

I'll be looking forward to your first light reports !

thanks for the compliments all. this will be that last I do for a while as it's such a big commitment. my 'problem' is that I care too much I think and make them as though they are for me. therefore the time taken is so great that it's not fair on family etc. especially if I want to do some observing myself!

I honestly consider myself a novice still although perhaps I am starting to move towards 'competent' nowadays :0)
