I've managed to capture Saturn at dawn. The seeing was an epic failure whole night, but I've managed to get some basic images. The first ring of the season, return of the lord of the rings...

Basler Ace acA640-100gm, SCT 8", +/- GSO 2x Barlow. The tilt is noticable, and it will get even better this oposition:

Heh - hee Piotr.....I was wondering when some enterprising fella would take a ping at The Ringed One.....should've suspected you'd possibly be the person....!

Great to see those rings opened up, hopefully next year will be a good Saturn Season.....but I'll most probably wait a month or so myself before taking aim.....:)

Wow First Saturn of the Season! Looking forward to the Saturn images to start coming in now.. only so many Jupiters I can take :-)

Like others I have no Eastern horizon, however I may be tempted to go and find a spot early one morning if the forecast looks good :-)

I'm determined now to 'bag' Saturn asap. I live on the East coast, so a short trip gives me a perfectly flat and dark horizon. For all the benefits of the clocks going back it does make capturing Saturn a Stupid-O'Clock affair! It'll be worth it though to get a good image, plus I'll get to see the Sun rise too. I'm ashamed to say I've seen far too few Sun rises in my lifetime.

Brian is right, after the coming 2010/11 season Saturn just sinks into the horizon. By 2013/4 Saturn will be struggling to break free of the horizon. Sadly Jupiter follows Saturn's lead. 2014 onwards will not be planetary observing heaven.

Nooooooooooo :)

And I can't see any horizon from my garden :D I need to get myself out of town and up a hill. Saturn is the most rewarding planet to observe (maybe because it was my first) and I can't wait to get a chance to see it again and try out imaging it.
