martin_h
It's taken me 3 days but I've finally sorted out why I lost networking to the obs. - the local wild life has eaten the cable!!!
Gina
I've had that with virtually all cables that go outside except armoured ones or ones in substantial pipes underground.
Ben the Ignorant
Why do they bite cables? Is rubber food to them?
Paz
Maybe eating cables adds a bit of excitement and variety to their day?

Beulah
It's the ease of access to the wires and the fact they 'stay put' whilst the rodents do their business of chewing to keep their teeth from growing out of their head!
martin_h
I might run a spare 240V line down there .....chew on that!
upahill
Its how rodents get online, they refuse to pay for their own connections. Or they use it for bedding, I don't know - but its one of those two things im sure. How was the cable run, loose or in a pipe?
RayD
Wowzer they've had a proper go at that!!
Hallingskies
Mice strip cables for nest making. It was not uncommon to find nests made out of shredded Cat5 in outdoor enclosures when I worked at power stations. They would chew through the cable seals to get in and cause all sorts of problems. Les Ewan
A couple of years ago I drove off in my van one morning to go to work and after about 50 metres the engine conked out, when I got out to investigate diesel was running from the bottom of the engine. A mouse had chewed through the rubber fuel line.I soon fixed it, however the same thing happened about a week later so getting a mouthful of diesel didn't deter it any. LukeSkywatcher
I had a rat in the attic a couple of yrs ago. It chewed through all the cables for the lights in the house. I heard it jumping around a couple of times. It sounded like a 20 stone Rothweiler up there.
Ben the Ignorant
You may be surprised there's a YouTube channel dedicated to mousetraps, and it's worth checking, some designs are centuries or millenia old. The inventivity that went into catching rodents over eons is staggering. https://www.youtube.com/user/historichunter
