SnakeyJ
Freddie, looks nice - your seeing was rather better than mine, but I was clouded out at this point. Not jealous, much

Space Cowboy
Very good detail Freddie! Colour looks a little odd though? Was this RRGB?
theo
Nicely done Freddie. Good detail here though I would agree with Stuart regarding the colour. A few adjustments could improve this i would think but a great image nonetheless. Pete
Freddie
Thanks for the comments. I was using this latest hubble shot as a reference so I don't think I'm far off with the colour.
Space Cowboy
There is far more blue showing in your image Freddie. I've looked at this on 3 different monitors. Colour balance looks very different to the Hubble shots.
Freddie
Thanks Stuart. Blue adjusted down a touch.
neil phillips
Great detail Freddie, I could see how calm the image was on Screen here too, just before all the cloud came overAt least some got to beat the UK weather.

Freddie
Thanks guys. That's the trouble with planetary, the weather has such a big impact on the image quality so you can only achieve what the seeing allows. Still waiting for great conditions to show up !!! Space Cowboy
Certainly one of the most detailed Jupiter images I've seen this year from a sub 10" scope Freddie. How are you finding the ASI cam compared to the DMK?
Alan
Great image Freddie some very fine detail showing through. I can count on one hand the number of clear skies coupled with anything like steady seeing that have been available around here this year !! Switching to RGB from osc in the hope of capitalising on any decent nights.
Freddie
Thanks for the comments guys. Stuart, I'm still not sure about the ASI but on balance is an improvement on the DMK. It is more sensitive than the DMK in blue which definitely helps as I can keep the exposure down, gain down and the frame rate up. With the 9.25 and the DMK I often had to have 90% gain to get a decent frame rate and then use all the tricks in the book to process out the noise and keep some detail. I think this cam will be a great help with Saturn. What I haven't yet got completely to grips with is the slight "grainy" look to the images it produces compared to the DMK (at least on Jup). I see it a lot in ASI images so I think it is a cam characteristic that takes a bit of processing out. Interestingly DP says in his video that he prefers the DMK to the ASI on Jup. For me with a 9.25, the improved blue frame rate is worth the extra effort to get rid of the "grain". Bigger chip is a big advantage on the moon and also the higher frame rate than the DMK (not an issue on Jup as I can't go much less than 1/60 sec exposure) Not had a chance to try it on my solar set up but there are quite a lot of reports of newton rings, so will be interesting to see how that goes. Summary, well worth the money, glad I bought it, adjust processing for the grain but don't get carried away by potential frame rates as not all scopes can get enough light to reduce the exposures enough to achieve them. Space Cowboy
I think there is no doubt that in less favourable conditions these CMOS cams show their worth especially if trans is poor. You will certainly see a big difference on Saturn Freddie. Good to hear you are pleased with your new cam!
Freddie
I think you are right Stuart on Saturn and now that I have cut the tree tops off I will get about two hours on it each session !!!

astroman001
Great image detail. Still looks a bit green to my eye. I have been playing with the ASI 120 MM camera and find the noise to be a problem that limits my gain to about 60%. Above this I get vertical banding noise.regardsPeter
Freddie
Thanks Peter and Roy. Peter, I'm usually 68-70% gain with the 120-s but don't get the vertical banding noise you obviously have. You may have a one off issue there.
