Hi Mike and welcome to the forum. Thirty years is certainly a fair amount of time to be away and I expect that you might notice a slight change in the equipment spec and what this gear is now able to achieve -quite amazing to be honest.

Glad you decided to join us here and there is a lot of imaging experience and expertise here to guide you through the learning curve, so please don't hesitate to ask any questions in the appropriate section.

Clear skies for now and enjoy the forum,

James

Hi Mike and welcome to SGL, that is quite a time difference with imaging, most of all the literature of the past years abounds with black and white images taken on film, there is no comparison to that which can now be produced by the amateur Astronomer, using web cams and digital cameras, even from a modestly dark back yard. Although it is appreciated that you will have photographic expertise, the forum members who have gone over to the dark side, as we affectionately term AP, advocate obtaining a copy of Steve Richards book " Making Every Photon Count " see FLO top of the page, maybe a copy will help bring you up to speed on some of the techniques involved, enjoy your AP :)

John.

Hi, Mike, and welcome to SGL! Others have mentioned some of the changes you will notice in the time you have been away - but the constallations, planets and skies are still in the same place - and you have a very nice scope to find them! Enjoy!

Martin
