The first time I looked through one of these was back in 1985 when I was working on a construction project at the Mt. Wilson Observatory. I said to myself.......  " Someday "

Twenty six years later it became a reality.

I bought this little chap to keep me company in the observatory during the long winter nights.

He will slouch nicely on the shelf above my desk, and hopefully advise me on new discoveries.

Made of resin compound,  32cm x 20cm and doesn't eat much either.

  • 2 weeks later...

Just treated myself to a solar filter for my Vixen 81s.

Hopefully the sun will be out tomorrow, I'll try for those big sun spots I keep hearing about.

Thanks Tich for the info, much appreciated.

Took delivery of a new Celestron HD Pro Wedge from Rother Valley Optics earlier to mount the CPC1100 on and attempt some longer exposure AP.  Haven't had chance to take a picture yet but I did manage to get it set up in the Obsy this evening. Just need a clear night to sort the polar allignment now, Saturday night may be....

It's a hefty piece of kit, ,much bigger and heavier than I was expecting but looks solid enough and appears to be very well made.

First DSLR image with the CPC1100 on my new HD Wedge (plus a new f/6.3 focal reducer). 2 minute exposure, single frame.

It won't win any awards on here but it's a big improvent on what I've managed in the past with 25 second exposures, due to the limiting alt/az fork mount. I wasn't fully polar alligned as it was the first time I'd used the wedge and wasn't entirely sure what I needed to do. Anyway, I'll keep practising.....
