Hi

I have only just started up earlier this year, so have every sympathy with your dilemma!

Started off with a Meade 2000DS refractor and Celestron 4SE, but would not recommend them for ultimate portability. I now have the larger Meade Lightbridge, but have you considered the 8" or 10" Lightbridge. So easy and quick to assemble, simple to use, smooth ball bearings on base, and good build quality. Only the 16" which I am looking for would be too heavy. The smaller ones can be quite inexpensive, but offer superb results, taking either 1.25" or 2" eyepieces. I find the clarity with the 2" well worth the slightly higher outlay!

Hope this helps a little?
