Hello Everyone,

Having a long time love of the night sky, the combination of retirement and a move to a reasonably dark site in Norfolk is hopefully going to lead to a more active observing life.

I am also aiming to get more involved in astrophotography, so I forsee quite a learning curve ahead!

Cheers all!

Steve

Steve,

Welcome to SGL. I too have retired just recently (well semi-retired still doing a bit of part time from home) and would love a move to darker (and clearer) skies but persuading the missus to move is going to be difficult.

You are in a marvelous part of the UK with good weather and so your learning curve should be an enjoyable one and always lots of help on here. I only started the journey around 2 years ago and this forum has been a real "God Send" and saved me lots of time and wasted cash.

Good luck with the journey 🙂

I am looking foward to it. When I was young the sky always seemed so clear, even in town! But having spent many years near Cambridge I am used to sodium yellow!!!

In comparison, my new sky's are gorgeous!! Perhaps the lure of a quieter, less hectic lifestyle might help the missus appreciate a location with darker skies!! lol 😆

Sounds great I love Norfolk and Suffolk. I have tried the lifestyle thing but she is quite a lot younger and still working so that didn't work.

Hi Steve,

Welcome to SGL, it’s a great place to be!

I am also retired and living in North Norfolk enjoying the dark sky here. I started astrophotography a couple of years ago and that’s when I joined. The help and advice I have received have been invaluable, I would have been floundering around without all the help I received. (Ignore that it looks like I just joined, had a problem logging in which I need to sort out.)

Anyway, I wish you well and look forward to seeing your first photo. My first few were pretty poor compared to some of the amazing images I have seen here but I don’t care, they are MY rubbish images LOL. I have improved since those early days, I think.

Hi Steve,

Just to say I gave you a welcome from Moonshedman but that was just a temporary arrangement until I could log in with my usual name of Moonshed, which I have now done.

Just so you know not to reply to Moonshedman as he no longer exists.
