Hello! This is my first post to this forum! I just purchased a 6" Sky-Watcher Dobsonian, and am so excited about getting back into Backyard Astronomy. I had a Meade ETX90 years ago, and sold it, and waited to get this new telescope.

A good choice with your scope,  though like me, you may want to go bigger, but if your light levels are low and the seeing  is good, a 6" under dark skies could outperform my scope due to the glare from the local street lights.

When the snow is the same height as the top of the scope you can offically cease observing. If memory serves right you are midway between Calgary and Edmonton. And I have no idea why I think I know that.
