Hi folks,

Not long and im looking forward to it.

I was wondering what scopes  and kit people will be bringing and what targets everyone has in mind.

Ill be bringing my 127mak to give it a trial under a proper dark sky as its my grab and go as well as my scope I take camping.

For deep sky ill have my 16inch dob and want to try to get the horse head neb as a visual object .... ive been trying this for years and never succeeded.

Cheers

Looks like you have a number of options already planned. Dew can be a problem so dew bands for your camera lens and the scope would be useful...... or a hair drier.

I have not used Backyardeos but it looks very rich in features so I might learn from you. You would also benefit if you have Canon's eos utility as it has a better zoom facility than Backyard.
If you can attach your camera to the ED80 with a T-ring then you could also try polar alignment using Themos's neat utility.

Looking forward to meeting you on the 31st.

Andy

Hello Andy

Thank you for the message.

I will try and find my Canon utility cd and install it onto my laptop, I have not seen the urility for many moons, also my laptop only goes at a snails pace I am afraid. Looking forward to meeting you and trying to gleen some astrophotography help from you.

Have a safe trip!

Best regards,

Hadyn - IOM

No the sky conditions have got to be bang on with light pollution and transparency otherwise it's next to near impossible.

Ive found the same, exit pupil is also key apparantly in order to give the right degree of contrast. Under galloway skies though,  and if tnere is  cool steady night then it might just be possible. Nudging the scope so the brightest starts are just out of view is also meant to help aswelll. Your big scope has twice the surface area of my 16inch so that may give you the edge.

Cheers

Hi Ian,

If you are going to Ireland via car.....

A box of Tato Crisps Cheese and Onion.... I will pay with UK currency.

For those new to star parties, Jaffa Cakes are normally the order of the day with coffee.

Bacon Rolls early morning or a full Scottish Breakfast will also do nicely.

Whiskey is also very acceptable... especially on a dark cloudy night.

Have a safe trip.

Cheers

Adrian

Hello Guys

Not long to now chaps, unfortunately we have been having some problems with ferry boat from the island, it has broken down a couple of times this week, so fingers crossed they get the thing sorted out, its a hell of a row otherwsie!

I was just wondering is there an Intinerary on what takes place at all please?

Was there a list of what folk are bringing at astronomical wise at all. Just bringing my ED80 refractor and my 9.25"  with heq5 and ne6 mounts  along with my Canon 1100 and 700 camera's, plus various eyepieces and a shed load of bits and pieces and as mentioned earlier in a post I am looking for a friendly astrophotography tutor also please?

Have a safe trip Guys!

Best regards,

Hadyn - IOM

Hi Hadyn,

There is no schedule of events as such. Basically it is arrive, setup, socialise, drink, eat, stargaze, relax, fix/modify equipment, and even that is in no particular order.

Demon Barber (Mike) is organising pies and peas, I think for the Saturday night.

It is a very relaxed and sociable affair by all accounts.

On a more serious note though, Pies only if they have been  measured and passed the Dual purpose Dobsonian Pie Measuring Device.

Please contact:-

Damian at Mapstar Inc.  C/O SGL  for further information.

(Bribes not accepted).

This information was brought to you by "The Shields Astronoimical Gazzette"
