Hi Adamzy,

Welcome to the Lounge.

Depending where you actually live I would say your back garden as a starter. If you are looking for properly dark skies I would head for Kielder Forest, specifically Kielder Campsite :- http://www.kieldercampsite.co.uk/

There are regular star parties held there, with the next on being October:-http://stargazerslounge.com/topic/209761-kielder-autumn-2014/

There is also a star party in N. Yorkshire:-http://stargazerslounge.com/topic/206153-dalby-forest-starfest-2014-aug-22nd-24th-organised-by-scarborough-ryedale-as/

Not sure where exactly you are in the North East but it would worthwhile checking out your local astro society and seeing where they observe:-http://www.astronomyclubs.co.uk/Clubs/Counties.aspx

What equipment do you currently have?

Clear skies.

Ian

Hey! Come on.

North-East UK is still - at least until September - hundreds of miles from Yorkshire!

Or is it north-east England you mean, perhaps?

And no, I'm not a snippy Jock. It's just that if we can look at the cosmos and give directions and understand what and where we're talking about, surely we can get it right for a wee island on planet Earth.

Please?

Hi Gordon,

Is that aimed at me? In England, and I am not from England, most people when talking about the North East are generally on about the area around Newcastle, Durham, Middlesbrough etc. If however, the person is from Scotland and specifically the part that is towards the top right of Scotland they generally say North East  or NE Scotland, just as per the location given in your signature!

It may be slightly ambiguous, but the OP's location is given as Northeast then a comma then UK. It could be read any number of ways. I chose to read it as North East England. Is that very England centric of me? I have no idea. I am not even from England. I do however live in Engalnd.

You are most certainly correct on one point "North-East UK is still - at least until September - hundreds of miles from Yorkshire!"

Adamzy, your doing well, on your first post you nearly started a fight

Not sure of this where you live, but here, in the States, there are web sites that can tell you exactly where dark skies are.

Type "Find dark skies" into google or any search engine and you'll probably find a decent source of info.  :)
