  1. There are Acrylic resins out there that may be an easier option. " Cromapol Acrylic Waterproofing Coating " is an example ( other makes exist). They are basically Resin with built in fibres.... they have good reviews. Just paint it on.
  2. As a deeply religious person I do not agree with this scientific nonsense of their being nothing and then all of a sudden there was a big bang and the universe was created from the void .... Gospel dictates that there was nothing and then God said "let it be" and all of a sudden the universe was created from the void.. Er ! .... hold on a moment ?
  3. Option 3 - oversize cable gland--- then use a split rubber bung forced into it.. a tiny bit sealant could be used if its likely to get very wet
  4. Very nice, one of the best pics I have seen of this .
  5. Know the feeling. Whoosh ….. ! What was that …. Life mate...you missed it !
  6. Is it connected to a telescope , if so it will need to be focused correctly.
  7. https://astronomy-imaging-camera.com/manuals/How_to_clean_ASI_camera_and_redry_the_desiccant.pdf
  8. Tonight is the last night of astronomical darkness up here ( or down here depending on where you are )….😭 Not dark again until August !.... Well OK 30th of July but I know it will be cloudy then anyway.....🙄
  9. I would personally go down the bigger battery option rather than use batteries in parallel. The only exceptions to this would be if you needed to maintain power at all times ( you could change one out without losing power) or if there was a physical space constraint. Using batteries in parallel can be fraught with difficulties.
  10. As above , Think of capturing raindrops the same as capturing light photons, now if you poured the water ( or focused the photons ) into a container ( or a sensor ) which do you think would have captured the most ?
  11. Cheapo drinks cooler from ebay, basically a Peltier with heatsink & fan in a case running from USB. The plate is the size of the base of a drinks can. Intention is to use it to...… well you know what I am aiming to do 🤪 Had it running for 5 mins in shed with glass thermometer precariously balanced on it, dropped from 20c down to 8c already, impressed.
  12. An alternative may be to obtain a mini camera that fits inside the focal tube ( like an eyepiece ) https://www.firstlightoptics.com/zwo-cameras.html Or see if you can borrow one to try it, sure there may be someone nearby you who could lend a hand ….maybe ? Obviously this would mean giving up on your original camera with this scope.
  13. I don't believe this particular reflector can achieve direct focus with a DSLR ( not enough inward travel on the focuser ), you would need to either fit a low profile focuser or move the primary mirror ( not easy to do ). Alternatively some barlows may work by moving the focal point further out, which I believe you have found works.
  14. And this https://www.telescopehouse.com/bresser-extension-tube-37-5-mm-for-2-5-hexafoc.html May be available from other suppliers as well. couldn't see it on FLO's site.
  15. From a website, it should have an extender ? " Bresser Messier Dobsonian 8-inch Specifications: Telescope type Newtonian Reflector Parabolic primary mirror made from H-PZ33 low expansion glass material Telescope aperture 8-inch / 203mm f/6 1213mm Eyepiece included SPL 25mm Mount type Dobsonian Focuser Single Speed Hex-Focuser (takes 1.25" / 2" eyepieces) Optical 6x30 Finder 1 Tube extender 37.5mm for 2.5" Hexafoc - IMPORTANT NOTE: this is packed in the mount box in a cutout insert the centre of the mount packaging"
  16. You need an extension tube to use this optically, would be the most likely scenario. I would imagine it would have originally came with one. You could use a barlow lens with the element removed if you have one ?
  17. Get prepared for the clouds to roll in....lol
  18. The problem with the HEQ5 is that the shaft is reduced at the end from about 4mm down to 3mm to accept cog...so unfortunately not standard.... trust me I looked everywhere that I could find
  19. I had the same issue trying to get a motor for my HEQ5, eventually found one after much searching, otherwise it was about 3 months delivery. Did you ask https://grovers.biz/optics/spares-parts/6545-sky-watcher-motherboard-dobsonian-sky-liner-synscan.html for a lead time. Also might be worth asking these guys https://tavcso.hu/en/productgroup/szerviz_motherboards doesn't show your particular board but doesn't cost anything to drop them an email. Kev
  20. I would start by trying to break down the problem. Do you actually need USB3 would the devices not run happily on USB2 most will ? Do you have a laptop or PC, could this be moved into the observatory room ( assuming you have one and scope is not outside ) and the Keyboard, Mouse , screen be extended backwards into the warm room.
  21. Kev M

    Hello

A very belated welcome.... from just to your left and down a bit. Kev
  22. Yes you can get an adapter for the Nikon with a 1.25" or 2" extension to replace the eyepiece and diagonal. You may need an extension tube the same size to get focus ( other celestron users may advise better on that ) Example below You may be able to get one that screws directly onto the back ( I am not that familiar with the Celestron model ).
