  1. Exactly and this is the basic problem, we tend to reference everything back to our own local time on earth. We cannot actually measure the speed of light , only the apparent time taken between the start and finish of our measurement, this increases linearly with distance so gives an untrue reading. The fastest tool we have for measuring anything is a light beam so "unexpectedly" if we use light to measure itself it will always come back with the same value.
  2. And also , referring to previous statements. Be aware that mass/length etc are a function of time and although they may change for different observers as you are always in your "local" time your mass & length will never actually change. Slightly different when accelerating, but at a constant speed they will not change. Hence although it is said you cannot travel faster than the speed of light and light "takes" @ 4 years to get to the nearest star this does not prohibit you from travelling to the nearest star in a shorter period, say a month for example.
  3. Don't see how quantum entanglement contradicts causality, surely it is just another aspect of causality, Quantum entanglement contradicts relativity, not causality ?
  4. Not convinced about quantum entanglement, this was Schrodinger's cat scenario ! How can you possibly prove that the state of something does not already exist ?
  5. Just read your other post, it appears to be a Bird-Jones design and its the corrector lens that is missing, As others have said this will be difficult to source seperately. It would be possible to get focus by moving the mirror further up the tube ( bit of mechanical work involved ) but the spherical aberration ( it would be a bit blurry ) would be very bad without the corrector lens.
  6. Do you meam "mirror" as this is a reflector ? Or do you mean eyepiece lens ?
  7. When I had this problem it was a problem with the windows 10 usb/serial driver, worked fine on windows 7 machine. Found an older driver and installed it on widows 10 and it worked ok. Also get the same error if the mount is not powered on....I fixed that one more easily. Basically it is trying to speak to the mount but not getting a reply back. On my HEQ5 the power ligth flashes on low voltage dont know if this is the same for the EQ5 Assume as above the USB port is correct ?
  8. I believe this may just be a built-in USB serial adapter as people say it appears as an Prolific serial port when plugged in.
  9. From the Orion manual... "The SynScan V5 hand controller can communicate with a computer via the RS-232 port or the USB port at the bottom of the controller (Figure 1b). In this way you can use many commercially available planetarium software programs to control your GoTo telescope or mount, essentially bypassing the hand controller’s interface. If you choose to use the serial port, the computer must also have an RS-232C serial port (which most don’t have these days)"
  10. I would suggest using intermediate plates ( couple of car brake discs are popular and cheap ). Bottom disc has holes to match pier studs, top disc has holes to match pier adaptor. They are bolted together using threaded rods ( the length of these are easily adjustable to vary height of pier). Also if you ever change your adaptor ( different mount ) you only have to change or re-drill top brake disc. Plenty examples of this on forum.
  11. The RJ45 connection on the mount is a serial connection NOT AN ETHERNET ONE.....yes it has an RJ45 plug but it is not an Ethernet /network connection. Your adapter is expecting to connect to an Ethernet connection and will not work. use the recommendation above ( or similar eqdir adapter ) and it will be recognised as a com port and be fine.

  13. Hi, and welcome. I have recently started into this world and would definitely recommend the ED80 as a good starting point. I would also recommend either the HEQ5 or EQ6 as a goto mount ( they will allow you to upgrade later to a bigger scope if you wish ) and from what I have seen have better control over guiding etc. The EQ3 or EQ5 are more portable though if this is required. The 750d will be fine but I would recommend a smaller camera for guiding ( ASI 120mm or MC ) or similar. ( the Neximage may work but have no experience with this ). These will easily be within your budget 2nd hand and probably within it new as well.

  18. I would have though an iso nearer 800 or 1600 would be better. What lens is this....couldnt see it in the thread ?

  22. Both will be 42mm threads but the pitches are different 0.75mm & 1mm. If you screw them together they may lock up and/or damage the threads, so NO would be the best advice. Adapters are available to convert between them
