Good gratings are quite pricey, so buying within the EU (for the time being) could save some aggravation. Depends on what you are looking for.

Whilst I have never bought anything from them, I too would give surplusshed a go. They have been around for a long time, so must be doing something right. They will tell what the postage is, but import duty and other charges seem to be a bit random. It's worth getting on their mailing list just to see some bargains.

Looking good. Just one thing about the vents, you will probably need to vacuum clean quite frequently. Once the spiders find it, it will be heaven for them.

It looks like there are 3 screws on the bottom of the electronics pilllar, eg there is one right under the "off" label. If you undo all those screws you should be able to rotate the mount 120 degrees. That might be more then you need, although you could use the azimuth adjusters on the mount to go back a bit. EDIT: I see that only further degree or 2 is needed, so this suggestion is no good.

I'd say my most recent was seeing a shadow transit of Io (22 Aug 2019), when i was just casually having a look at jupiter with my TV 76. It brought back memories of seeing comet Shoemaker levy 9 hitting Jupiter back in 1994.

Tresco is one of my favourite places. Just getting there is an adventure, and the helicopter service restarts next spring.

A friend of mine recently acquired a nexstar 6se, and I helped him set it up and use it. I was impressed by the goto accuracy, and every object we chose was close to the centre and easily visible - admittedly under bortle 4 skies, but it was in August and never really dark. We used a celestron power tank rather than the batteries, which worked well. The only downside for me was that the tripod was rather short.

After a long time of not even trying to use this DOS based software, I have now got it to work with Dosbox. I am looking for a user group. There used to be one on Yahoo, but that closed, and the link suggested by the software provider doesn't work. Does anyone know if such a group exists any more, and if so where? Thanks

You could try a lower profile 2" to 1 1/4" adapter. Televue make one (part ACF-2125), and probably others.

It is not necessary to use the Televue adapter (nice though it is, and small as well). I think it was designed for a clamp with one screw that would latch into the notch on the adapter. Many Vixen compatible dovetails will be fine - such as the ADM ones. What you need is 2 UNC 1/4 20 capscrews, and a dovetail with either recessed groves or correctly spaced and countersunk holes. I'm not at home at the moment but I could send you a picture when I get back, if that would help

I agree that 1250 is OTT. I sold one that I had bought in 1993, about 10 years ago for 800, with some eyepieces, dew heater and dew shield included. It also had the lovely case. I started looking for offers around the 1100 mark, and got nowhere. Although the optics maybe fine, the electrics don't always stand the test of time. I'm guessing, but I don't think the classic mount has been available for 10 years or so. Capacitors blow sometimes, and I gather that if you are lucky, you can replace the capacitor, but if unlucky you could need a new board. The handsets can go wrong as well. The examples cited above seem much more realistic to me.

I downloaded the driver from Softpedia. My anti virus (norton) said it was safe. This was the Windows7 driver. Some win7 drivers will work on Windows 10, and some wont, so you just have to try.
